    Thanks for fixing the title.

I hope the guys selling 800 dollar colts for 2400 pull their heads out cause I would buy one now for a reasonable price. Or a FN kit or even a PSA CHF kit.

I sold everything to buy this house and now I need to build the one lower I kept or I would buy a decent rifle for decent cash but were running up against the election.

I love colts and FNs so come on colt, flood the market.

I kind of understand the appreciation for Colt, but not the prices. I grew up in the AWB era and knew very little about ARs and Colt. Best I can recall they talked about M16s and such and Colt was the name mentioned. At that time I had never heard of Eugene Stoner. I went to boot in September 2004, I remember asking my DIs if the AWB had actually sunset. Again, didn’t know much about that classification, but knew they shouldn’t be prohibited.

The weapon I was issued at Parris Island, 2004, was a M16A2, made by FN from Columbia, SC. I was confused as I thought only Colt made those weapons. In my 12 years in the Corps I never saw a Colt weapon, only FN. As time progressed I learned more and kept an eye out when going to new units. Still never a Colt to be seen.

Now, as a firearms collector and enthusiast, I wouldn’t mind having a Colt, but I won’t over pay knowing that FN builds a phenomenal weapon, made in SC. Most of my ARs have FN CHF barrels.

Also, most Colts I see for sale have a 16” barrel and carbine length gas system. I’ll pass on that every time.

    Gunz are icky.
Colt makes a pretty good AR.
Folks like the name and will pay for it.
    Good to see them again.

TBH, I can’t see paying what the boutique AR shops want for their weapons. $3K for a freakin AR?!?!?
    Oh come on! Seriously?!?!?
I’ve slapped together half a dozen AR’s myself for <$1K that run and work just fine.

Not particularly. I've seen some real crap sold by "custom builders" and garage gunsmiths.
I have as well but there are 100s of name brands that will do all a Colt branded AR will do. Don’t think for a second that Colt is a sole in-house product. It ain’t. I’m not anti Colt I own three Colt handguns and a Lightning rifle.

Colt LE model M4s, i.e. civilian market, are built on the same line as mil contract M4s. The only difference being the lower and obvious parts.

Their competition models I'm not sure about.

They had some 22 cal ARs out at Christmas time 15 or so years ago made by a different company that I wouldnt touch. Like many 22 cal ARs they are one step above toy air rifles. I'm glad they didnt continue that outsourcing trend. Colt as a company are perplexing on their business decisions. Sometimes it seems they have a blind witch reading the market demand and trends and deciding on what products to or not to bring to consumers.

Both colt and FN are premium because of parts, barrel and BCG steels, quality testing and quality finishing and assembly quality. I'm talking about finishing of the manufacturing process of the barrel extension lugs gas ports and blocks and BCG parts. Stuff that is left to break in or unseen in other manufacturers is properly done by these type brands and why they cost a bit more.

Does that mean A PSA nitride kit wont have performed just as good 20 years later? Not necessarily depending, again, on the parts sources and assembly, but I just prefer the others if I can get them. In fact I consider a PSA kit with the FN CHF chrome lined barrel kits and a premium BCG just as good as an FN upper. I just double check assembly.

That said ARs are so sorted out by now and cnc programming so universal and primary forging companies interchangeable that getting that kind of quality just isnt that difficult anymore. Nor is it expensive.

The consumer demands certain parts made with specific materials and assembled a certain way. Yes there are junk peddlers around but there is really no excuse to get a crappy AR unless you're the cheapest most ignorant sob out there.

Even the cheap lowers rarely have an out of spec issue. They are or they aren't in spec but the actual quality of the forging and machining are not different than an "A" tier brand of Lower and many times made by those same top tier companies suppliers or forgings come from the same places.

The only reason you find out of spec lowers is really the QC process. They go longer between inspections and tooling gets worn out and they allow greater variance before tooling is replaced and parts are tossed. That's really the only way you can screw up a part made on modern cnc machines as long as the forgings are good to start with. I'm only talking the fit and quality of lower receivers here. The finishing required on smaller parts that interact and make the gun go bang are a different story and require a higher level of machining finishing testing and assembly. I would be careful as to who makes and assembles those parts. They may "wear" in after a 1000 rounds but that means they wernt finished properly to begin with and hints at other shortcuts or QC issues.

There are certain things I prefer where beta testing or QC aren't left to the customer, especially if my life depends on them. It's the difference between function testing a Glock or like weapon loading in and carrying it and the 500 rounds you have to put thru other brands before you kinda trust your life to them.

I'm looking for them. I'm sure certain distributors or dealers are getting them. I havnt found an ad yet other than the story.
