I have the latest, the AA-8. Overall I really like it. When the priming system works, it's ok but it is pretty finicky. Another weak point in the design is that the primer tube blocks the turret handle which makes die positioning a bit tricky especially if you're throwing powder on press like I am.

    Those new ones are nice.

Yeah, sometimes you just have to pick which side to put the handle on that is less intrusive. Or just take the handle off completely and use the inserted dies as the “handle” and pull on them.

Maybe I should just upgrade to a Dillon.

Got to say....reloading has not been an enjoyable pursuit thus far.

It is like any task, buying the right tool for the job makes a big difference but having the best version of the right tool helps more! Get a Dillon and I bet reloading becomes easier and, hopefully, more enjoyable for volume work.

I had an RCBS Pro 2000, loved the press hated the priming system. Bought a 650, loved the press and the priming system. Win!

Sorry you are having trouble. For me reloading has become almost therapeutic and I enjoy it almost as much as shooting. I got a Dillon years ago and the priming system was a little touchy at first but once I got it dialed in I have had zero problems over about 10,000 reloads.

I Load mostly 9mm & 45 and worked out the change over from small to large pistol primers so it takes about two minutes and works flawlessly.

The only minor complaint is occasionally (2-4 per hundred) a spent primer will defy the laws of physics and somehow escape the primer catch chute and end up on the floor. Tried everything including profanity and cannot figure out why or how it does this. So I sweep the shop...

Sweep the shop? F that! I shop vac everything.

Yes, 650. I didn't see a similar design for the 550, but I did find a collar that may help the issue:

    Dillon 550C Primer Cup Collar
That looks interesting but in An effort to minimize the problem I removed the stock Spent primer cup And replaced it with a plastic chewing gum Container that increases the opening in the spent primer cup by about 50%. Still get a few primers that manage to evade capture. It seems like the primers are “squirting” out while the ram is elevated and somehow escape the catch chute.

Like MTA, I like the Lee hand prime.
    On press priming generally sucks.

Guess it depends on the press, this one primes at 4600 an hour without too many issues!

I have the Lee auto prime. Its a bit different from the hand prime. IMO It is much better than the hornady hand prime that I have ended up throwing against the wall a few times . $26 on midsouth + $15-20 for lee priming tool shell holders if you dont have them already.

So I was looking again at this and evidently Lee says to load Federal primers one at a time...if that's actually required, it's a no go for me. I just picked up 1K of Federal SPP. :/

Midway had a free shipping promotion so I bit the bullet and picked up the RCBS bench prime.

PSA had the APS bench priming system for about the same time but I opted to go with the conventional. Looks like the APS is on the way out so no point in buying into a dying system.
