My only pump, a Standard Arms Model M in 25 Remington. Taken a few whitetails with it, fun rifle. Easy enough to resize 30 Remington brass down to 25.

Have you thought about a Model 740/742? And a Browning BAR can be chambered in .308. Not perfect alternatives, but those are the closest that I've seen available.

    5231HG,

BEFORE you invest money in either a BAR or Remington semi-auto rifle for self-defense OR for hunting anything that seems likely to gore, trample, claw or EAT you, think twice or 3 times.

IF I soon do NOT find a Model 7600P, I plan to find & buy a "Plain Jane" & "early production" Model 760 in .308WCF (with the "corncob" fore-end, which will not be difficult) & cut the barrel down to just over 16 inches for hunting heavy and/or dangerous game "in the thick stuff".
(Fwiw, I have "no shortage of" Model 760 rifles in a variety of calibers BUT currently none that I want to "cut down" into a carbine/saddle gun.)

    None, never seen the need.

    Lonesome Dove; Fishkiller,

I would guess that NEITHER of you gents are "wrong-handed guys" , otherwise I think it LIKELY that you would own at least ONE pump-rifle/carbine.

Well over 90% of the "pump-rifle addicts" that I know personally are LEFT-HANDED.

    5231HG,

Unfortunately it is NOT, though I would HAPPILY pay 450.oo for the 7600P.
(The little 7.62x51mm carbine cost 525.oo when NIB & considerably less when sold on police contracts.)
    They are NOT "collector's items".

ADDENDA: I have "missed out" on two 7600P that sold on GUNBROKER.COM in the last 6-8 months, for reasonable prices & SEVERAL that sold for "scalper's prices".

I'm told that one in "slightly used" but perfectly adequate for a "shooting carbine" sold for 405.oo plus S&H.

    TheDan,

NICE "corncob"/standard grade PUMP-RIFLE that is PERFECTION for us 870 addicts.
(I've shot a pump-gun for so long/often that I try to "pump" every long gun.)

Fwiw, your 760 looks like my treasured pump-gun in.300SAV twin.

    TheDan,

Btw, I'm looking for a Remington Model 760 "in shooter's condition" in .308WCF to "cut down" into a just over 16" barreled "saddle carbine", since I cannot find a 7.62x51NATO police carbine.

Once i find one, it will be "cut down", refinished "very Plain Jane" with MINWAX & scoped with a 2-3X Leopold or Redfield scope.
(The LAST scope that I bought was a Redfield 2.5X "shotgun scope" from a garage sale for 25.oo.- It's on my 760 in .30-06 & GREAT in the "thick stuff"& out to 200M+.)

    ...or have you owned?

I have owned several pump action shotguns over the years; I have four currently and all are Remingtons. When it comes to slide action rifles, I've only owned two centerfire slide action rifles as best I can remember. The one I have now is a Remington 141 in 35 REM.

Had another of the same model but sold that one. Nice guns, manufactured from 1935 through 1950. If you ever find one in 25 Remington you have a rare gem that was only produced in 1935.

I've never owned a pump action rifle in a centerfire caliber, just a .22 LR. However, I really like my Mossberg 20 ga Model 500 and I can operate it faster than any bolt action or lever action and keep my cheek weld when I do. So, If I buy another deer rifle, it just may be a pump action.

    Somewhere in Texas!
The only pump action rifle I have ever had my hands on was a Winchester 1906. I can not say anything bad about pump centerfire, having never handled one, in all honesty, never even really knew they existed. That being said I would be willing to give one a try, if it ever fell into my hands. Until I find one, in a caliber I already have, I will have to stick with my lever guns.

Remington model 14 in 35 Remington. My dad was a gunsmith back in the day and found this rifle in an estate sale somewhere somehow. Fixed it up and gave it to my granddad as a Father's Day gift. My dad has long since died but a few years ago my granddad gave me that very rifle.
Thought about taking it to get the receiver drilled and tapped for a scope but 35 Remington has a BC like that of artillery so I haven't bothered defiling its condition.
