Yeah the show was going pretty steady until about 2:30 in the afternoon when it happened, you hear a round discharge and then the silence. The next thing you hear is a man screaming, I couldn't understand what he was saying but his 18 year old son had been shot just below the knee cap. Apparently the son who was carrying the gun in a box dropped it by accident, it discharged and the father is screaming for a paramedic as his son has just been shot. The father & son just purchased a .22 cal. handgun from a non FFL licensed vendor. The father was pointing his finger at the vendor and screaming at the top of his lungs, a few minutes later a Waxahachie Police officer walked over to the table where the firearm was purchased to check the other firearms on the vendors table and the first gun the officer picked up had a round in it. Premier staff & Waxahachie Police officer told the vendor he was being evicted from the event and quickly threw his inventory on a cart & rolled him & his junk out the back door. It's amazing that no one else was hurt as we all know .22's are one of the deadliest rounds cause they bounce & ricochet... Then the Promoter gets on the loud speaker and you can't shut the bitch up, she ran the crowd out the door running her mouth and business was pretty much done for the day.

Dang....and I was thinking of going today.

If you go Sunday get there at 9 am for best selection and I agree with TreyG-20 that will probably be the last one there. I overheard the Mayor of Wax was contemplating canceling the entire event due to the ND. Non of this is any good for the Promoters and they had nothing to do with it. It was the vendor who wasn't checking his junk.

Had nothing to do with it? They allowed the vendor to check his own guns, and I assume they just took his word for it?

    Yeah, that worked out great.

A 6 next to the Shamrock Coffee vendor. You know I'm wide awake! Lol..........

Promoters are not checking the Vendors guns on their tables, vendors are not checking their own guns. If I was running the show I'd hire 2-3 people just to walk around and cut the ties off guns & check the chambers of every used gun in the show. ND's are usually associated with used firearms on non-FFL vendors tables. Almost every ND I've witnessed was from a used firearm and it was associated with a non FFL holder, a private individual set up as a vendor at a gun show... In the last 20 years I've witnessed easily 10 ND's and one of them involved a off duty police officer at the Tulsa Wanamacher Show. That bullet got a innocent bystander in the femur bone and he went to the floor.

This was a very unfortunate situation for everyone. I'm just glad no one was seriously injured. There was a emergency room paramedic in attendance at the show and he was on the scene immediately and assured everyone there was no serious injury, he did what he was trained to do and waited there with the 18 yr old for the ambulance paramedics to arrive.

    To All,

SEVERAL years ago (when there were REAL gun shows at Dallas Market Hall), one of the Constables, who was MOONLIGHTING as a security officer, was "tipped off" that a man had been SEEN loading a pistol & then walking away from the table.

EVERY VENDOR was QUICKLY/QUIETLY notified to check out every firearm's chamber for "loaded chambers". = EIGHT FIREARMS were found to have loaded chambers.
(The "guilty party's" fingerprints were on several rounds, his prints were run, he was identified from his TDL photo & he was located/arrested & taken to the Dallas County Jail. - He was located while he was still in the building. = The "handgun loader" thought it was a REALLY FUNNY PRANK until he realized that he was going to jail.)

    yours, satx

We all "ASSUME" that all fire arms are drop safe in this day and time. Unfortunately that is not the case, even with first line guns (like SIG P320- In fact I recently purchased a P320 and it is really nice gun but I did check to see it had the upgraded parts to make it drop safe prior to purchase)

crazy how stuff like this can happen, its almost like people don't check the chamber and clear firearms whenever they pick one up or are handed one. it also seems like pretty convenient timing.

Way too many assumptions were made. Plenty of stupid to go around!

That's what I was thinking; lots of stupid to go around...

In the leg & below the knee - the kid's lucky it was just a .22.

Most vendors are conscientious enough to check their guns, if for no other reason than to avoid liability.

"Most" isn't good enough. Not with the idiots running around in the general population. And certainly not with the anti-2A's and Antifa's and such that could easily slip a round into a few guns hoping to destroy the show for their enemies. I noticed at the NRA conventions, there are people checking tables constantly and noncompliance can get you booted.

The last gun show I went to I was minding my own business when I suddenly heard shouting a couple of tables away. A guy was yelling for someone to quit pointing a gun in his direction and dry firing it. I was really surprised that he had to say anything. Was the vendor not paying attention, or just so eager to make a sale that he didn't want to say anything? I couldn't see the perp from my angle, but they were within 10 or 15 feet of each other.

Reagan used to say, "Trust but verify." It's a good plan.

Yep(!).... that's what we meant by, "plenty of stupid to go around".
No matter how you slice it... Promoter, vendor, buyer - Last person to touch the weapon has the responsibility to ensure it's empty. Anyone that picks up a gun and does not check the chamber/mag prior to doing anything with it - owns what happens next. In this case it appears Dad/son get to wear the "I'm stupid" plaque. I'm not saying vendor is absolved of responsibility, he's not, but in the end the last person to touch the gun was....
