“I was flying a medevac mission when I was shot through the windshield and we went down. So I strapped myself to the skids of the helicopter that rescued us and returned fire on the Taliban as we flew to safety,” Hegar said in the ad. “For that I was awarded the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor.”

    Cool story Bro.

Except it she not shot through the windshield, she was not piloting the A/C, it did not "go down", she stood on the skids, not strapped to them, she did not return fire on Taliban and the other 4 crewmembers also were there and awarded the PH (if injured) and the DFC.

I am I the last person to find this out?

MJ Hagar ad if you did not know. It appears to have been pulled as she was called out on it.

Our helicopters today, the Blackhawk helicopters, never had skids on them. The only helicopters that had skids on them were the old Vietnam UH-1 Hueys.
The Blackhawks, and Chinooks all have wheels.
She lied through her teeth, and made an ad to look good!

She was a 60 co-pilot, but the rescue chopper was a Kiowa, having skids was one of the few things she said that was true.

    It was a Kiowa
Kiowa Warriors aren't able to take survivors on their skids. Their back cargo area is all filled electronic countermeasure equipment and weapons sighting electronic equipment.
Kiowas are over heavy the way they are already, so trying to rescue 1, let alone 4 adults, and 2 crew, and weapons load, is going to be grossly overweight. It wouldn't fly.
How do I know? Because I used to work on them and Blackhawks when I was in.

As I remember (correct me if I am wrong Hawk) the Kiowas were underpowered as well has having issues with altitude in warmer weather.

I read the citation report. She was the co-pilot. There was a round that went through the windshield, but it hit the pilot in his chest. He was wearing armor and was only bruised. she was on a skid and and she did fire her weapon, but only once and into the air.

If I can find the report, I'll post it.

Is there a link to a news story that Hegar pulled the ad?

I ask because a friend and neighbor, who spent over 3000 hours in combat helicopters and is a decorated Vietnam veteran, was very upset at her for that ad, and he will be very glad to have proof that ad has been pulled.

I asked her current political opponent's campaign manager if they were going to bust her on the BS (I knew the after action report facts) and they demurred saying it was political suicide to attack a Veteran on their service. It really struck me dumb. You can not loose votes from people who are going to vote for you anyhow. You can only gain votes from people who when smacked in the face with the facts - my suggestion was just read the AAR word for word in an add or at the debate and say nothing.

She said she was flying a Sikorsky MH-60 Pave Hawk, a rescue version of the Blackhawk helicopter.
The supposed rescue Pave Hawk she was co-pilot in would have a minimum of 4 people in it. Her, the pilot, and the 2 extra crew members in the back, minimum, to help survivors in and out of the helicopter.

Did you know that as an officer as an Air Force Captain and above can write their own citations of gallantry and bravery, and pass them up the chain to be approved?!? Most of the time, their self grandiose citations will get them awards and accolades, without being questioned.
They do that to help them make higher rank, and to ooo and ahhhh the ones below them.
Another thing, if you're in the active duty service or even reserves, you cannot sue the Pentagon, as she states, to make it so she could go into combat. That would be going above the head of her commander, and generals, and land her in very deep, and hot water for not following the chain of command.
So.....on more than one occasion, I see she has extremely bent the "truth" to fit her needs, and purposes. Exactly what a Demorat politician does!
