    Sorry satx, can't resist. ;)

Anyone old enough to remember the "riot" after a UT/A&M basketball game (2nd semester of the '62 school year?).

We Ag's were seated in the bleachers on the floor of the basketball court and were pelted with cups of ice and trash from the seats above during the entire game. At the last buzzer both sides meet in the middle of the court and we proceeded to kick some tu ass.

AAMOF, there appeared in the New Orleans Times Picayune newspaper the very next morning, a front page, over head picture of your's truly Aggie Fish, standing knee deep in teasips on the court, connecting with a left hook to the chin of another.

Shortly thereafter someone hit me from behind with a shoe to the side of the head, and when I went down I couldn't even hit the floor.

Back on campus the next day that photo, which had already made the rounds, saved me from some pisshead hazing misery for a couple weeks thereafter. ;)

    C3 Medical Co ... gig'em!

    karlac,

Inasmuch as I was in the 9th grade at that time & DESPISE "bounceball" intensely , I could care less about what did or did not happen at the game, EXCEPT that you are OK & didn't get seriously injured.

Apparently, this is where all the controversy has it's origins. A part of history I didn't know.

    https://www.kxan.com/news/local/aus...-to-professors-lessons-on-uts-racial-history/

Yes, you and a majority of the people on this planet that didn't know.

I get that certian words or phrases are offensive, but if it take a professor doing some presentation about some obscure facts that nobody knows about, that could possibly be linked to another saying that has been deemed racist decades and decades ago, then how offensive is it?

I had a good Marine buddy who went to UT the same time I did. He happens to be black. He was never offended by that song, because like you, he had no idea it might be tied to something else. If most folks, regardless of color, don't find something offensive, why try and dig up obscure pieces of info and try to make it offensive?

As you might gather from my username, I graduated UT some 34 years ago. I used to be quite proud of that. 1982-1986 was a wonderful time to be a UT student and I loved my time there. Nowadays, I am embarassed to be associated with UT based on what it has become. I wonder, if I pawn my class ring, do you think I'll get enough to buy a couple boxes of ammo?

    To All,

As a lifelong ORANGEBLOOD, I think that anybody who fails to sing (or if they are a Longhorn band member, PLAY) THE EYES OF TEXAS should LOSE THEIR SCHOLARSHIP & GO ELSEWHERE.
(NOBODY IS INDESPENSIBLE * I'm SICK TO DEATH of this "POLITICALLY CORRECT" foolishness.)

BTW, THE EYES is NOT & NEVER HAS BEEN "the UT fight song", despite what the NITWITS of the MAIN-SLIME MEDIA claims.
(Truthfully, I suspect that ANYBODY, who claims to be a UT student & does NOT know that much, is a FRAUD & never has been a LONGHORN as every REAL UT student knows that THE EYES is NOT the fight song.)

TEXAS FIGHT is the UT fight song, as any denizen of THE 40 ACRES should know.

    yours, satx

I’ve decided they need to just shut it all down for good.
That's a damn good idea. I said as much to the wife, reading that story update. If some of them don't want to play it, yank them out for while, so they can think about it. Maybe they'll spend the time researching how much CRT has helped this nation "progress".
Doubt it, but I can dream.

    kbaxter60,

IF I was the CHANCELLOR of UT (Any guy can DREAM.), I would tell every "complainer" to turn-in their LONGHORN uniforms & leave THE 40 ACRES, FOREVER., as they are an embarrassment to a fine university.
(WHEN/IF the adults STOP listening to the foolishness spewed from the BIG mouths of a FEW soreheads, whether students or not, things will be 100% BETTER at UT.)

Yes, even though I prefer the maroon & white, I completely agree with your sentiment.
I remain hopeful. I gotta believe that alumni from universities taking part in "stupid shit" may think "maybe I don't donate this round" and it has a real effect on their finances. I think it happened at Mizzou after their flurry of stupidity a couple years back.

    KBAXTER60,

I refuse to believe that COACH ROYAL and/or DR. VINCENT R. DININO would have put up with this FOOLISHNESS for 2 minutes.

I knew CHANCELLOR HARRY RANSOM (I was in 2 of the courses that he taught in 1966.) & KNOW that he would have QUICKLY told the "complainers" to "HUSH" or just GET LOST.
(IMO, we have NOT have had a Chancellor nearly as good since "THE BOSS" left.)

ADDENDA: I well remember the night that a group of 20 "protestors" occupied the foyer in THE TOWER & refused to leave. "THE BOSS" walked over to where the protest was & simply/quietly said, "you have 30 minutes to gather up your signs & end this nonsense or you can return to your quarters, pack your things & LEAVE UT."
(The "protestors" were GONE from the foyer in about 10 minutes, as they KNEW that he was not joking.)

It's not like they have any superstar players on the football team that would cripple them if they left anyway. For anyone who doesn't want to be on the field for it, let them transfer.

We're not playing for championships, and it's not worth listening to a bunch of mediocare players whine.

    To All,

Once more if I was THE CHANCELLOR of UT, I would tell the athletes & the bandmembers to SING the UT ALMA MATER or TRANSFER elsewhere.
(Even if you sing as POORLY as I do!!! - I cannot carry a tune in a tin bucket. - FACT.)

I'm sure that those "complainers" can find a school somewhere where they will NOT have to even hear THE EYES OF TEXAS at ballgames.

Apologies up front - I think I’ve seen this article already posted once:
“University of Texas Longhorn band won't play "The Eyes of Texas" this weekend after some members say they're unwilling”

I chose to be a UT fan when I moved to Texas four years ago, but they are apparently too liberal for me to be a fan anymore.

So which college team am I to root for now, A&M?
