Well I am covered by the wife's medical. She is a retired state worker and has the "Cadillac' plan. I was auto enrolled in Part D and a Supplement Plan, and no decisions to make. If you are on Social security they automatically enroll you in Parts A and B, for $144 per month deducted from your SS check. As I understand it, if you can afford the Supplement Plan it is the way to go, you pay up front and the plan covers your Medicare Co-Pays and Coinsurance where the Medicare Advantage Plan has a low monthly cost but you pay more for doctor visits etc. At least taht is how I interpret.

Go to the Medicare Website (www.medicare.gov) and you will find some good information. Good luck with teh research. And now you get at least one solicitation for medicare plans per day in the mail.

    Regards

Biden will tax it AGAIN! Medicare was originally tax exempt. Biden made it 50% taxed, and THEN 85% taxed. Look for him to tax it 100%.

Medicare F with USAA. Medicare D with AARP Preferred which United Health Care runs. Get all my Rx 3 months at a time.

I pay nothing for my medical care but do pay some of my Rx costs but much less than retail pharmacy costs. One of my meds cost $700+ a month without insurance and 3 months is $247 with insurance.

All of the medigap plans cover the same thing if they are the same letter, so like in mine, F, all cover the same thing. The difference is price and you can't really tell right away as one company might be lower when you first sign up but go up faster than another company in 3 years. I choose USAA as they have always been good.

My recommendation, stay away from Advantage plans. You may think you are getting a deal until you find out your doctor won't take it, your hospital won't take it, you have to get approved for everything before hand. I am sure Joe Namath uses it (sure) but you won't like it. As long as you go regular medicare, if your doctor takes medicare, as most do, you are okay. Not so with advantage plans.

Is there a difference between vet, non vet, in the discussion?
Are you asking about within the context of Medicare rules/operation? If so, the answer is, no. Medicare, itself, makes no distinction between veterans and non veterans. I retired 2.5 years ago and selected Plan 'G'. So this gives me Hospitalization (Part A), Medical (Part B) and the deductibles/out-of-pocket expenses as defined by Plan G. I also bought a 'supplemental' Prescription (Part 'D') coverage. My supplemental plan costs $132.50/mo. which uses SilverScript (plus, still has me paying a copay on one or two prescriptions - depends on the "tier classification" of the drug, in their formulary).

I suspect (and I'm only guessing, here), there may be a way to get prescription drugs {only} through the VA hospital at a far more economical price. I've been meaning to give that another shot. The last time I tried to get registered at the Dallas VA hospital, I waited all day and my number still wasn't called to be served. I also got to witness an older black veteran (who, mentally, really needed help / medical attention), and had the Dallas cops called on him when he started acting up. He was handcuffed, arrested and got to spend the night in jail for throwing a cigarette ashtray stand across the floor of the waiting room. He was truly, mentally a broken man who had pretty much waited all day and really needed medical treatment. I left the Dallas VA hospital and haven't been back in twenty years.

I have a Senior Advantage plan thru Cigna/Healthspring. The $144.00 is deducted from my Social Security check every month. Due to my location (Orange) I pay nothing for part D. PCP visits are 0, Specialists are $20. Also Includes eye and dental.
