With the recent rise in value of all things gun related, I find myself wanting to cash in a few chips. This seems to be a hot topic and one that stirs up some anger for many. The question I propose...how much mark up is too much?

Looking at ammoseek I'm finding nothing under 65 CPR for steel and as high as 89 CPR. Anyhow, obviously none of us are buying at that price but if I'm asking say 45 CPR am I a piece of shit for doing so? Not long ago I let go of some brass 9mm for $20/box. It was profitable but as I see replacement costs rising I'm thinking about bumping up my price if I sell anymore.

As far as 5.56, I've seen some neck bearders looking to flip academy packs for double what they paid. I'm more in the cost plus 50% area but am I greedy or smart ? Anyhow I wouldn't be asking if I didn't have thick skin, so I welcome the comments including the "you're a piece is shit" responses.

Where I live some guy is selling his reloads for these prices. I personally think the buyer sets the price. Sell for whatever you want.

I'd be scared to let anything go at this point, You should wait for the Georgia Senate elections before you make a decision. If the democrats win one or both seats it won't be a matter of price to replace, you may not be able to replace it at all.

My current outlook is 12 years of Biden/Harris Presidency. I'd be really careful about letting go of anything you're going to want to replace.

You're not out buying cases of ammo and reselling it for twice what you paid, you were already sitting on it and see a market opportunity. If its worth it to let go of ammo you've been sitting on I say go for it. Hell you could come out +50%and still be making a pretty good offer to buyers.

Disclaimer: This is just my personal opinion. Yours may vary.

I think there’s a big difference between (a) selling off some stock you bought before these shortages started, versus (b) standing in line at Academy every day to suck up as much ammo as you can and then re-selling it at a markup.

Both (a) and (b) above are legal, and I would defend your right to do either. But I think (b) is slimy. I have no problem with (a).

I am not selling any of my personal ammo for any price...even though I am out of many calibers at the shop.....it makes no sense to sell my private ammo reserves at at any price only to be out of ammo myself.............effectively being out of ammo both at the shop and personally in short order......even ammo I have for calibers that I don't own guns for........someone I know does.........

Selling off your excess? Really? Does anyone think this couldn't last for 2-3 years or maybe longer?

My peace of mind is not worth the short term profits to me at this point....

Hell, there are neckbeards that brag about how much they make flipping Academy ammo on this forum.
Sell away, replacing it will cost more than you are selling it for though, and if you should happen to need it.........

Well full disclosure gentlemen...I do happen to reload for 13 different calibers and actually prefer bullet weights that aren't common in manufactured ammo. Specifically 135gr 9mm and 62gr sp 223. Fortunately I feel like I have enough powder, primers and projectiles to keep me chugging along for years.

That's a big part of my equation. Projectiles aren't too crazy just yet and my other supplies are ok. I've had people ask me about selling my reloads but I'm not even thinking about that. Don't need the money bad enough to become a felon.

When you factor in restock ability or lack of, political scarcity, the fact that you've warned those who now may be running to you in desperation, and your own needs...it takes some figgerin'!!!

Reputable online dealers I've dealt with for years are charging 2X and more what they were in January...and we don't KNOW how much they had to pay to get ANYTHING to stock for their customers. LGS having trouble getting ANY to sell guns and run the range with.

If I were going to sell some, I'd say "What would I be willing to PAY if I had to buy some to get what I needed?"
I filled my bucket list this year on guns...bought the last one this morning for exactly twice what I paid for the same model 12 years ago...and I'm a happy little man.

We've never had times like these before...it's rough and guaranteed to get rougher. Do what you need/want to do and don't let others shame, chide, or threaten your decision. You shave your own face every morning...they don't know all your facts and you don't owe them an explanation.

Collectors of stamps, cars, old tools, jewelry, etc regularly sell something for multiple times what they paid for it...and crow over their good fortune. It's called business. The buyers regularly pay more than they "should" to get just what they want...and leave happy.
Nobody should presume to get up on their high horse and judge.

For me, the line is where they start to tell me what I oughta, shoulda, need to do. Your game, your rules.
