I assume you are quite young and don’t recall the days when only a few states had concealed carry. Now virtually all states do. Perhaps you missed the NRA passing laws in most states preserving the right to hunt with traditional ammo, preserving hunting land, castle doctrines, etc.... The list is endless if you bother to look or pay attention. Without the NRA it is unlikely you would have any meaningful rights at this point. When is the lasting you heard a politician attack GOA. No one even knows who the are because they don’t matter.

You assume wrong Recoil. And, the NRA has never passed any laws, since they aren't legislators.

They have helped in some as token measures to justify, and appease it's members, but in some areas where they could have used their influence and the numbers to have made some real differences and changes, they failed miserably.

    Where were they on bumpstocks?
What about the Hearing Protection Act?
What about the "assault weapons" ban in 1994?
What about the Hughes Amendment of 1986?
What about the Gun Control Act of 1968?
What about the beyond ridiculous gin control restrictions in the states of New York and California?

I could go on for hours about many, many things they NRA could have helped to make some changes, or limited the infringements gun owners are facing, but I'm not. I made my point, and I think more than a few see my points as I do.

I was a Member of the NRA for over fifty years. Not anymore, until some radical changes are made and I can see the money I pay in membership dues is doing something worthwhile.

Feel free to go on about how the GOA blocked the bump stock ban or any of the other items you listed.

Again, you keep making assumptions about me, and you know nothing about me. I don't belong to the GOA either, and never once said I did, nor have I said I planned on joining them because of my feelings towards the NRA.

Would you like another shovel to keep digging in that hole you are in?

    I’ll just leave this here:

When the NRA Supported Gun Control

NRA has backed most state gun laws passed since Sandy Hook

The NRA Supported Gun Control When the Black Panthers Had the Weapons

The surprising history of the NRA

Today's gun control debate has echoes of 1934 — when the NRA supported legislation

You look at this backwards. It’s not possible to block everything. How much additional antigun legislation would have passed over the years without the NRA lobby organization?

On the NY/Cali issue with all three levels of state gov controlled by antigun politicians, what do you expect them to do?

You omit all the good they have done with posts like this. You fail to balance the good when judging them.

You also seem to have very unreasonable expectations.

What about the Hughes Amendment of 1986?
A short note about that. It didn't pass. The voice vote was obviously against it and a call was made for a roll call vote. The Speaker simply declared it had passed, ignored the calls for a roll call, and moved on.

I watched the entire proceeding, live, on C-Span. I was shocked at the abuse of power shown by the Speaker.

Once it was in the package, the NRA said it shouldn't be a deal-killer, given that other things in FOPA were wins for our side.

In retrospect, their judgement was flawed but this is one I don't hold against them. They didn't have a crystal ball.
    Where were they on bumpstocks?
Leading the charge and wasting political capital. This one is a head-scratcher. Even if they didn't want to support bumpstocks, they should have used them as a bargaining chip. They might have been able to trade a bumpstock ban for passage of the HPA. Instead, as soon as the notion of looking at bumpstocks started to gain the slightest traction, Marion Hammer published her famous "bumpstocks are machineguns" statement and the battle was lost before it began.

In retrospect, their judgement was not flawed; it was aggressively stupid and politically suicidal. I most assuredly hold that one against them.

Where was the NRA when Remington was being sued for the events of the Sandy Hook School Massacre?

Remington was already on somewhat shaky ground financially, but that lawsuit was the last nail in the coffin for Remington.

They were essentially sued because the plaintiffs knew they couldn't go after Nancy Laza, who legally purchased the rifle. or Adam Laza, because he too was dead. They went after Bushmaster/Remington because they had deep pockets.

Remington and Bushmaster didn't fire one round that killed on person at the Sandy Hook School, but they were punished because they made guns, and guns are evil. Where was the NRA at when this was happening? Doesn't a lawsuit like this affect every gun manufacturer? And in turn affect law abiding gun owners?

This lawsuit IMO, makes about as much sense as suing Ford, Toyota, Chrysler, or GM when a drunk driver kills someone because they were drunk. Let's blame the inanimate object!

I don't see blaming the NRA for our personal failings at family education.
Any of you have a millennial kid or grandkid? They, not we, just elected Joe Biden. What the Hell do these kids believe? How did we do in convincing them that Socialism and Gun Control are failed solutions to an imagined problem?

How many of us said a word when Ollie North was pushed out of the NRA because he tried to blow the whistle on looting the treasury? It is far too easy to sit on the sidelines and yell at the players on the field, "do this, don't that; do it different! Do it better"

Until guns get even more scarce, ammo is totally not available, and state legislatures begin overturning concealed and open carry laws; Our fears/expectations sound "crazy paranoid or unreasonable". But, our elected representatives are accountable to none of us. There is no demand for results.

Our political systems are "winner take all", there is no longer proportional representation. We are either Black or White.... (not a racial comment, a yes or no comparison) So almost always; we are not represented by any elected representative who agrees with our position on everything, maybe not even a key issue, they just carry a "not Democrat" or "not Republican" label.

We need 270 electoral votes to name a president.... but as we just saw; Republican, Conservative, and independent votes are not uniform, we are split... consumed by a "dumpster fire" which we seem to have no interest in extinguishing.... but we are good at whining about it!

Executive Orders will be the primary means of deciding what happens: For example on his first day in office Biden renewed a law, paying for abortions in Mexico City. Congress and Senate were not even involved.. This will be the primary means of governing for this President's term of office.

In a strangely, but somewhat encouraging move for the losers: Biden pointedly avoided calling for unity in his inaugural address, indicating there will be no give or take on any issues which are hoped for by conservatives.. and probably moderate liberals:

With a Senate trial on another impeachment pending, Biden failed to prove he would be a president for all Americans, allowing Nancy Pelosi to dictate policy. Voters will not be paying any attention to Joe Biden's agenda but to the more harsh and divisive segments of his party.

Pelosi and Ocassional Cortez will be setting legislative priorities.. Biden will be ruling by "executive" Orders. He will have neither the house nor senate.
So, in the next congressional election and 4 years from now in the Presidential race, performance on Exceutive Orders, not congressional and senatorial action (but the supreme court) will be the measure of where America is: It will be on how much the Supreme Court allows/overturns or refuses to review, and to what extent our elected president and members of congress served American's needs.

    Friends,

UNLESS I've missed it, I haven't seen what city/county that the NRA is going to call HOME here in The Lone Star State.

    Has it been announced??

I spoke to NRA-ILA Texas Legislative Director this morning on some other issues. The NRA did NOT announce they are moving their HQ's. They announced they will be forming as a Texas Corporation. For the time being their HQ's will remain in Fairfax, VA.

But when are they going to move LaPierre out and do some reform of the NRA?

Recoil you must know by now that Axe in addition to being a trophy husband is also an old hard headed goober who will not do well in the reeducation camps. Perhaps he too was programed by S/Sgt Hedrick in 1966 and does not have a factory reset button. YMMV

    ARE YOU SERIOUS?

The NRA was actually behind the legislation that protected gun manufacturers from lawsuits like that for many years. It’s called the lawful commerce act. Without it the entire gun industry would be bankrupt. It shutdown many lawsuits before they started.

I found this forum several years ago. I stayed a while and left. It was mostly from the NRA bashing here. I lived in an anti gun state most of my life. When gun owners here bash the only meaningful gun rights organization around it is tough to deal with. Likely taking another long break from here soon.

AXE should move to CA or NY, he would fit in much better there.

That sir is THE question everyone has. Personally I won't give them another dime until LaPierre and his $900 freaking socks are tossed out of the building. I support instead the Texas Handgun Association, TSRA, and GOA-Texas.

Great idea. Do that while the feds pass laws that override anything In Texas. You have no idea how fast your 2a rights are about to be impacted.

    Informative post. Thumbs up!

For amusement purposes, call the GOA and ask to speak to your Texas legislative director.
