I have an early Remington Nylon 66 and was wanting to put a small scope on it that would be period correct. The last model of this was made before I was born so hoping some of you more established people could help me on what brands/models to look for.

I’m partial to old redfield fixed power scopes, but, don’t leave out Lyman scopes as well.

While it died off in the 50’s, I still think the weaver kv scopes are neat. It’s very difficult to find one that isn’t toast internally though.

    Gunz are icky.
Back in the 70’s Weaver was very popular.
    Redfields were expensive.
    Lyman scopes were good too.
Lots of el cheapo Japan made crap was around too. Junk.

I have several late 60s Weavers.....good glass and sturdy tubes. I also have an early 70s Weaver and Redfield, both in “wide field” configuration......both good glass.

    Tonyt915,

As one of TGT's resident EOFs (That is "shorthand" for an EXPERIENCED OF. = CHUCKLE) I don't think that ANY scope of any era will "play on the same field" as ZEISS (or a "no name" Zeiss by WAFFEN-BENNEWITZ).

That said, of the vintage USA-makes, I much prefer LEUPOLD or REDFIELD fixed-power scopes to any other brand.
(I've never known an old-time professional hunter, who would even consider using a variable-power scope.)

ADDENDA:I buy virtually ALL of my scopes at GARAGE & ESTATE SALES. = In fact, I've sometimes bought a rifle to get the scope & then resold the rifle.
    (Fwiw, I found my "TREASURE", a mid-1960s ZEISS 3X, on a "sporterized" WWII-era Mauser 98 in 8mm-06 for 100.oo about 15 years ago. - I put a "garage-sale SEARS 4X" on the rifle & resold it for 125 bucks. - FYI, money won't buy the Zeiss scope.)

    just my OPINIONS.

    yours, satx

Vintage Gun Scopes bought the entire contents of the El Paso Weaver plant and modernizes those classics with new seals, glass, and nitrogen. I’m a fan.

Weaver scopes have been made for many years in Japan. I don’t believe Weaver has an El Paso plant. They may have bought the parts from the company that continued to work on Weaver scopes after Weaver sold his plant.

I'm soon to be 64...and wouldn't dream of putting a scope on my Nylon 66.........I have several 22's with scopes...but..................

    A Nylon 66 doesn't need one...........

    jmho..............:)

+1 on Weaver K4 if you go that route
