You know in NJ there is a state law that in every new development, x amount of houses must be section 8 housing. They have to be dispersed evenly too so you cant just lump all the welfare houses together. I wonder if CA has a similar law

Maybe during the finalization of the paper work when the realtor takes their cut, the state steps in and does the same? Its a whole different world up there and lots of good people are stuck behind the iron curtain.

Years ago, when I lived elsewhere, my next door neighbor simply left his home and mortgage i.e. disappeared overnight never to be seen or heard of again, by me.

Apparently, selling and going through 'all the bother' wasn't for him.

Somewhere I read about NJ doing some weird tax/auto license plate/registration thing.
I can't remember exactly how it works but vaguely recall you had to cancel your registration when you moved out of NJ at two different state bureaucracies.
Or they continue to charge you fees.
One was the LEO end with canceling the drivers license but the other was phucked up place like Road&Bridges or something arcane like that.
They put a lien on you or something if you don't pay.
