I'll add another suggestion passed along to me years ago by a good friend about magazines.

He told me with most semi-auto pistols, many of their feed issues can be traced right back to the magazine as being the main culprit. He told me to always to try a different magazine if running into problems to see if that solved the issue.

Part of his suggestion was to mark or number your magazines to know which magazine is which, and if a problem occurs, and switching to a different magazine corrects the problem, you know which magazine is causing problems.

He also passed along to me that magazines are expendable, and can be fragile as well, so replace them on a regular basis, rotating older and functional magazines being relegated for proactice or range use only.

I've seen people post 1911 mags(45acp) are crap with the exception of wilson combat having better reliability. I don't own any 1911s.

Wilson Combat makes some really great magazines and I have several of them. They are pricy though, but worth it.

But there are some other great brands of 1911 magazines on the market, but as general rule, the higher quality magazines are not cheap.

Tripp Research magazines some years ago, were one if the top tier brands for magazines. That same friend was firm believer in Tripp magazines.

Chip McCormack makes some really good magazines. I have quite a few of those for my 1911's as well.

MecGar makes some really good 1911 magazines. They are also one of the leading manufacturers of magazines for many gun manufacturers, as well as making a lot of magazines for consumers under their own brand. My Remington R1 1911 came with MecGar magazines, that were also stamped with the Remington logo on them. Never have had an issue with them.

I have owned quite a many Springfield Armory 1911's over the years, and I don't know who makes their magazines for them, but whoever makes them, they are top notch IMO. I have never once had a problem with any SA 1911 magazine over the years either.

The ones I shy away from and the only ones I have ever had problems with are the really dirt cheap magazines and the cheap military surplus magazines. Pro-Mag is another one I won't ever own either. Most of them are just junk. I once bought five of them, and only one of the five would even function. Nope, I won't use them or even recommend them, even for just range use. There are much better magazines than Pro-Mag in the same price range.

Ed Brown, Triple K, and Les Baer are magazines I have used in the past with no problems either. There may be others, but those are the ones I have personal experience with.

I'm not sure what all problems other people were having or if any were ammo or firearm brand related?

On the rare occasion I have an issue with a 1911, the first two things I look at are the magazines and the ammo. Both are easy to switch out and test.

I'll add that very few modern 1911's have ammo problems from my experiences with them. All three of my 1911's very seldom ever even have factory ammo shot through them anymore. I shoot my own handloads, and never have issues with ammo. I have run into more problems with magazines in the past, and the biggest fault with them were the cheap ones!

I have Glocks for my 45s and 0 issues with them. The grip angle works better for my wrist than a 1911. I'm glad my wrist and 1911 don't corroperate it's cheaper that way.

I may joke and kid with people about Glocks, but they are a pretty danged reliable pistol for self defense and carry usage and if the Glock works for a person, I do recommend them.

I do prefer 1911's, but I can actually shoot a Glock decently.

Those Mecgars are good mags. Aren’t they the OEM for CZ?

Checkmate are also good. The current EB mags are made by Checkmate (as are Sig). You have to buy a really cheap no name 1911 mag to get one that is bad, from my experience. And even most of those work fine.

I have heard of the Checkmate brand, but I have never owned any personally that I know of, so I didn't mention them. But thanks for adding them to the list I made.

If standard capacity mags were banned, would prices plummet before the ban takes effect, or would demand rise to meet supply?

I can tell you from 1st hand experience behind enemy lines in the PRK - once .Gov comes for them - or moves to ban them - you'd think today was a Kmart Blue-light shopping special day compared to what may come.

Buy em cheap & stack them deep.

    That is all.

I need to find a consistent way to organize mine. I just throw my pistol mags into cardboard boxes. I need to invest in some plano cases.

    Sterilite containers from Wally World.
Maybe I'm just unlucky but I've always found those to be very brittle. I seem to break or at least chip the edges of them rather quickly.

Now, those containers with the four-way locking lids that they used to sell? Those were great.
