Pre 64 model 94 question

Is the pre 64 model 94 supposed to have a metal or plastic buttplate?

1950s manufacturing.

Pull the plastic off and see how much rust is underneath!

Metal butt plate and the cartridge lifter has 2 screws in the pre-64, 1 screw in the post-64.

Thanks picked up one as a project rifle.
Someone cut the stock down to 12” probably for a youth. Have another pre 64 buttstock without a buttplate.

Because people like me think they look cheap and stupid so we knock them off and throw them in a drawer, restoring the rifle to it's natural state.

Well there’s that,

I was surprised how much they cost to replace.

Grampas 1930s vintage 94 has no frt hood. Dads 1950s vintage does. Always thought it was the way they both came and was something added to the later production units.
