    I started with 556. Then I went to 300BLK, now I am at 762.

762 just gives you more. More thump, more range, more forgiveness for less than great placement.

I am not sure how it works for others, but for me I rarely see a single hog. I see sounders full of them. Anywhere from 4-5 to 20+. So I get one good shot, and after that it is a free for all. They are running everywhere and you are shooting COM.

My advice is do not buy anything else till you get here. A lot of what you have is not optimum or is costly and locks you in (like SF muzzle device).

Right now the best deal is an DPMS LR-308 lower kit from CDNN.

DPMS LR308 COMPLETE LOWER WITH STOCK GRAPHITE BLK (cdnnsports.com)

Then get complete upper from the usual places and are in business.
    Blah.

Mostly just busting chops. They make decent guns for the money.
I've discovered I'm a bit of a snob anymore and probably would build off an AERO set or some such. Maybe look around for something a bit nicer even.

I knew someone would. Irony is you are in NJ. :-)

But between my SCAR-H, SR-25, M110, LaRue LT10 and DPMS, the DPMS is the best value by far. And if you are only shooting hogs, you do not need to spend a lot of money. Put the extra money you saved into thermal and your kill count goes up 25x.

The number of pigs my DPMS LR308 (18” bull barrel) has killed has a comma in it. With thermal you really do own the night.

I was lucky enough to get 3 of those lower kits when they were $299. Only built one out, intentionally made it a budget gun using a AR-Stoner upper for $850. Then moved my Trijicon MKIII Thermal over to it. It is a KISS gun, does one thing and does it very good, kills hogs. Lightweight, no extra bling on it not need for its mission.

    I know my guns tho.
As stated DPMS is fine for the money. I simply prefer Gucci. Probably a consequence of where I (currently) live.
I only have two DPMS - an A-15 (Full-Auto Hose Gun) and this LR-308. Both work fine. I know Paul Howe uses them at his range for classes, and he has reported his work fine too and they see a lot of use. The thread in which he described his actual experience with it was epic. I am so glad I got out of the snob game and let the product do the talking.

One day I hope to get there as well.
With pistols that’s where I’m at but my rifles…. I like’em purty. At least I think they’re purty.

Currently living in NJ with all indications I will be in Texas (Allen area) by the end of August.

I'm building a rifle primarily because I have a buddy that lives down there that has some acreage and wants help with hog depredation.
I've hunted and am a decent shot. So I decided to go with a .223. I'll be loading my own using Nosler "Bonded Performance" bullets and Varget.

The rifle is a BCM upper/lower with factory parts in the lower. Premium BCG and a 16" Criterion "Core" series barrel(I'm currently 5 weeks in to a 12+ week wait), 16" set up for a suppressor with a SureFire muzzle device. Optic will be a Sig Sauer LPVO Tango 6, 1-6.
Everything is just parts right now and sitting in a box waiting on the barrel.
Unfortunately NV and or Thermal is not an option at this moment. If "excess" funds are found, I will be buying a suppressor first and foremost. Glass will come after if deemed necessary.

Did I do ok with my choices? Any suggestions on changes that I can effect prior to assembly/move?

AR in 6.8mm spc; 120gr Hornady SST bullets, S&B brass if one is hand-loading. Suppressor is quite important, but it'll likely take a long time to get one in hand. Thermal-/Night-vision is also quite important. Failing a night-/thermal-vision setup, some sort of red-dot. I'm thinking not having any sort of night-/thermal-vision renders the lack of a suppressor less important; having to be that close to one's targets mitigates the value of a suppressor. Also, a large capacity magazine for the rifle and a side-arm (magnum revolver or .45acp-/10mm-auto). Sometimes boars & sows w/ piglets don't take too kindly to being shot at...plus they can sometimes take a lot of punishment before they go down.

Just my 2-cents worth of opinion, and that doesn't buy much these days.

I use either 5.56 or a 7.62x39 AR setup for hog shooting. Ammo is cheaper…. For areas where shots are under 75 yards, I’ll use a green light with the 3x or 4x setting on my illuminated 56mm optic. I also have a green laser for when I do not have enough time to shoulder the rifle, but rather I shoot from the hip, such as with quick moving pods across narrow ROWs…..that takes a little practice, but is effective…. It is an eradication effort for my situation.

For those areas where longer shots will be encountered, up to 200 yards for my situation, the green light still works well with the large 56mm objective scope, but I look forward to the day when I can pull the trigger and invest in a thermal….
