Well first of all, the Security Guard was not following Was Mart policy. The policy was posted on the outside wall and clearly stated as a lawfully licensed holder I was allowed to carry.
Secondly, the Guard was not acting on Wal Marts behest but that of a customer ( ignorant as he may be)…..So, what’s your problem other than reading comprehension?
I read just fine. You assume too much. Security only knows, does what they are told. They are not employed by Walmart, so don't necessarily know of company policies. Which change daily with Walmart. If the manager told them to question anyone, or everyone about a possible gun issue, then that is what they do. Walmart is really gun shy about this stuff as to not to offend anyone, so they have Security as a buffer, they can claim no liability. With all the shootings that have happened at Walmart, I'm surprised they allow it at all. But aga not wanting to offend customers. You say Walmart, Security needs to be more informed, and know the laws, etc. But that isn't the way it works. People only know what they need to. But you not knowing what their orders are, seems to be the same as them not knowing the legality ot you conceal carry. Potato, pototoe.. Seems like both parties are misinformed. I was just speaking, from experience. Sorry if you misunderstood and got offended thinking I was attacking you.

I remember this forum being more laid back and understanding, guess things have changed alot while I've been gone. Hope your shopping experience, is better next time.

This is why I don't go to WalMart. They never have what I'm looking for, the lines are extremely long (although they have six or eight check-out registers (at least)!! If I do ever go back I will be open carrying but will not enter if they have the correct signage! :green:

I think a lot of it has to do with location. Small town, or big city,

All the shootings? Care to name the vast amount you claim. As I said it was not a Wal Mart employee that brought attention to my being armed to the Guard, it was a customer. Additionally, if the Wal Mart did not allow firearms, why would they have it posted on the outside store front that they do. If Wal Mart does not hire the security, who does? I’ve been going into Wal Marts armed since I received my CHL in 2009, there policy has never “changed “ from day to day as you claim.

Hah! If they are private security, they cannot detain you or keep you from leaving, especially if you're just walking around. They can have an a police officer, etc. come and detain you or run you off, etc.
Some of the security are Law Enforcement. I guess this can start a debate about on and off duty.

El paso, New Mexico forget the town, Missouri, one is too many.. Walmart considered not allowing firearms of any kind after the El Paso shooting. Have you not noticed how Walmart is trying to distance themselves from almost anything gun related? omg. Policy changes with the manager of the store, and what they want not necessarily the co as a whole. But it doesn'tmatter, you won't see anything from a different point of view other than your own.. I'm sure we can agree Walmart while it does serve a purpose, is evil. And for the security, they a tasked with responding to all concerns, even including those of other customers. Alas, we have come full circle. And are back to where it began. Just to say the same again. The security did what they are tasked to do, you as a legal cc did what you should, ask questions. Try to educate others. So all was good. Better to ask and assess the situation. For all they knew, you were not a good person there for nefarious reasons. Its all about perception. But had the busy body just gone on their way, you wouldn't have been bothered. A d wouldn'thave anythingto post about. Walmart doesn't have in house security, they hire a security company. Currently I believe they are under contract with Signal88. Or that is the company in this area any way. I could ask the manager. But have only tried to get correct information out, so maybe the next person has a better experience. Isnt that what this board is about?

I did private security work what seems like a lifetime ago. Armed, unarmed, all uniformed except one account that required business attire to blend with their staff - every assignment I ever worked came with pass-down info and post orders that included the policies to be enforced. Every single account. Its a cop-out to say that the security monkey doesn't know the law or policy that he's enforcing - if you don't know what you're supposed to enforce, you're just making shit up as you go and setting yourself and your client up for legal issues. No post-orders or pass down info? Stand there and look pretty, and STFU, you're only there because you're an insurance break or to scare emo teenagers into not stealing razor blades and black lipstick.

Wal-Mart's national policy is to allow legal carry in the given jurisdiction. I've seen one or two Wal-Marts with a sign indicating they'd prefer you not OPEN carry in their stores, I have never seen a Wal Mart ban concealed carry yet. If you are a contract guard working for a store like Wal Mart, I'd expect there to be a description of your duties. Your job as the security monkey is to stick to that list, and carry out additional instructions from those authorized to give them - not making up shit as you go, not injecting your personal biases into the mix, and not trying to play police officer.

As an unarmed guard, there's no way in hell I'm confronting a known armed subject. The $8.50 an hour or whatever garbage wage they're paying isn't worth the risk. That'd be a call to dispatch or a supervisor requesting PD respond to resolve the issue. "Observe and report" is the mantra of every unarmed post I ever worked. Even while working in an armed capacity, there were pretty strict post orders in dealing with suspicious persons or unauthorized individuals.

If this guard was NOT contracted by Wal Mart, and was instead general mall security, he needs to STFU and not be flapping his yap about store policy. Sounds like this was contracted by Wal Mart, so he should have some inkling of what was expected of him. I also cannot imagine that here in Texas a security guard would not be trained on the laws explicitly pertaining to their job, and at least have an inkling of what the laws surrounding the carrying of weapons are. I'll bet that if there were any confusion the guy had a smart phone he could look shit up with right quick too, or call the store manager for clarification.

Security guards are by-and-large just a show for insurance purposes. @toddnjoyce has the right idea when interacting with them in a non-consensual contact. If there is a real issue to be addressed, its better handled by police officers who *should* have a better understanding of the law.
