Yeah, I hear you. I have just over a half acre, in burnet. With lots of friends, with places to go shoot. But in Florida, I have no place, other than the gun store ranges..

I don't mind the range that i found...i have only been twice...but i prefer just being in a neutral spot where i don't have to worry about other people (especially the ones who pay zero attention to what they are doing). I'm not perfect by any means, but when i see you gesturing towards your vehicle with your gun in hand telling the person that is with you to "grab the hearing things from the car"...I feel the need to get the hell out of the area now.

    Out here by the lake!
My guess you accent might be a bit of a problem once locals hear it. You need to study the way the locals speak. I have been in Texas 38 years and recently was asked where I was from?

Not all Texans be it native or refugee at land barons! Finding places to shoot & hunt seem to be very commonplace for new refugees! It takes time and energy to gain trust and make friends.

Get yourself up early and find you cafes with the most work trucks parked out front for breakfasts. Go have coffee or breakfast. Don’t bitch if the syrups served aren’t real maple! Order biscuits and gravy, CFS and eggs watch and learn. Find the old man sitting by himself. Very good chance he is looking for someone to talk to! Sit down close to him and say good morning! Don’t be phucing around on your phone. Lonely old widowers with no one to cook for them or talk to enjoy company!

See what folks wear! I ain’t saying buy yourself Stetson, but take note of the sweat stained well worn ball caps, work boots types, brand of jeans or bibs.

I really don’t know anything about Post, Texas other then it being mentioned in Come Hell or High Water. If you ain’t seen the movie check it out.

    Welcome to the forum.

I have driven through Post at least twice a year for 20 years on my way to and from NM, but never stopped.

I am really surprised that there aren’t places nearby to shoot and hunt. As others have said, be patient, earn trust, and the rest should follow.

When I moved from Dallas to East Texas it took about 5 years for folks to let down their walls. They just didn’t trust people from Dallas or Houston 30 years ago.

I think West Texas is is at the top of list as far as friendliness goes, and I have traveled across this whole great state.

Thanks! Yeah, the closest range is over in Lubbock...about 45 mins away or so. I'm not opposed to it, i just hope and think there has to be a better option.

And I agree, it is pretty friendly around here...but the walls are still up for sure.

I can understand that, but I couldn't tell ya how many times I've watched it at the house.

    First of all, welcome!

I've been through Post a few times heading to Slaton, although I don't remember much about the town, I do remember what is around there. Lots and lots of cotton farms. If you can get in good with the farmers of that area, they may just let you hunt rabbits on their land, or just doing some target shooting.
