I lost 47 pounds in 14 months by following the recommendations for Dr. Jason Fung <= yeah that’s his real name. He’s got some killer U tube videos that explain things for those who hate to read. Otherwise just get his book: The Complete Guide To Fasting. This is not a diet, it is a method to reset your weight set point

Forget calories, your body doesn’t know calories. Your body runs on hormones, in particular insulin, cortisol, adrenaline, with additional support from testosterone, estrogen and some others.

My set point dropped from 260 to 225. It’s stayed there for a year without anything other than just not overeating. I eat within a six hour window and watch my carb intake, < 30 gm/day. Otherwise pretty much eat what I want. If I binge one day, I drink bone broth the next day and fast 36 hours. Bone broth kills my hunger - H-E-B has excellent offerings under their brand.

30 grams of carbs a day is tough.

What do you eat the most of on a daily basis?

    Really tough.

Not easy for some of us to stick to the 75 g per meal guideline.

Don't have any vices to speak of - other than enjoying good food. And my better half is an outstanding cook.

Weight Watchers worked for me, assigning points to food's and not going over your points for the day. South Beach diet works also but I didn't like that one.

It's impossible for most people and I salute the OP for achieving it. I feel relatively sure I would lose quite a bit of weight if I could stay under 200.

Also, I find it painful to deal with all the "net carbs" rigamarole out there that seems designed to make the whole concept more opaque than it needs to be.

I'm not being negative, though. I will absolutely review the data in the OP. Maybe I'll find something that clicks in my brain and opens new worlds for me. After all, hope springs eternal, right?

You don't need Doctor Funk, weight watchers, set points or buy any other hokey gimmicks. Just stop eating and DRINKING carb and sugar and syrup loaded crap and get off you ass once in a while. Once you've lost enough fat to find you still have a back bone it seems a lot easier.

It isn't any easier for some or or impossible for anyone else. If one man can do it, another man can do it. Only thing different is do you WANT IT or NOT.

I went from size 44 waist to 36 today. Same as I was in high school. You didn't put it on over night, you ain't taking it off over night.

    Congrats ETH77!!!

I'm a big boy...but I still am active despite my size, it surprises a LOT of people...I race cars (stock cars) where you have to get in/out through the window...let's just say that it's NOT fun (the ingress/egress), everything else is a BLAST though!

When I did the Truck race I dropped 36 pounds in 7 weeks (both because I needed to and that window opening is actually smaller than traditional XFINITY/CUP/Trans Am/ASA cars). How? Low carb/Atkins along with light/conditioning exercise...the main thing for me to cut out was wine...I LOVE red wine...so I stopped drinking alcohol other than my one night out during the week with the boys for cigars (vodka with diet tonic). Ate a LOT of chicken caesar salads, meat, cheese, eggs, Atkins meals, Atkins bars, etc. Pic of said window with me in the truck....even with the weight loss (I'm still very large) I had bruises on the right side of my body (butt to shoulders) from getting in and out. LOL!! Anyway - my point being - if you need to lose weight - have a goal - bucket list item, life event, health, etc...and you WILL achieve it! I told the team what I would weigh for the race...guess what? 0.6 lbs off the mark! We get weighed in our skivvies pre-race so the truck can be "handicapped" accordingly based on the driver weight.

I too fast. I eat from 1200-2000 and fast for 16 hrs. Sometimes are more difficult than others due to my working overnight often. I also try to not eat bread, sugar, pasta, red meat, dairy and other carbs.

If I go to someone's house and they grilled burgers or steak IM EATING IT. But I choose fish or chicken when I'm choosing my own meals at home or at restaurants. I also quit drinking alcohol for reasons other than my physical health.

I can feel the difference and I highly recommend folks try the fasting. You may need to skip breakfast and eat an early lunch. Or continue with early breakfast and skip dinner. Ease your way into the longer time periods.

Some of us don't drink carb and sugar crap, or even eat much of anything with sugar in it. And we try to get some exercise. And still have some struggle.

    Different people have different metabolisms.

I agree, no need for any fancy name brand anything. I went from 247 to 182 in 10 months of intermittent fasting. Off all my meds now for diabetes/cholesterol etc and just eating better/less and walking. It just takes some discipline. I cook once every 3 weeks now and make all my entres up in advance, like TV dinners only much healthier. Saves time cooking and cleaning up the mess every night as well and makes more time for other things in my life. Protein and green veggies for the most part. Not hard but like smoking you can quit if you really want to, just stop. I quit that too years ago!

Then doctors and pills and shots may be your only alternative. But many people can benefit from just fasting and losing weight. My A1C went from the mid 12's to 5.6. After three back surgeries and diabetes it was over due to lose the weight. I feel much, much better that I did and have a clean bill of health from my doctors and Endocrinologist. Last thing was the Colonoscopy and they found 4 polyps and removed them (benign). Getting ready to retire and I have had everything checked now and am in really good health for my age now. Let the party begin! 8 cruises scheduled over the next year. One is a 57 day cruise through the Mediterranean and then a transatlantic home. With a week pre cruise in Paris and a week in Rome.

I eat within a six hour window and watch my carb intake, < 30 gm/day. Otherwise pretty much eat what I want.

Pretty much my strategy for 2021 so far. At the end of last year, my lipids tests (cholesterol, triglycerides) were off the charts (for me), and my doctor prescribed medication to get me back on track away from heart attack territory. Instead (with Dr's approval), I opted for a severe diet change and my old, but tried & true exercise regimen (P-90X and morning walks), something I slacked on for a few years. My wife and I pretty much stuck to proteins (chicken, beef, pork) and green veggies for dinners, and eggs, bacon or leftover dinner meat, berries, or avocado, and cottage cheese for lunch. Only coffee and raw nuts for breakfast, and snacking came to a halt, no desserts, no sugar. Once a week, my wife and I would incorporate wild rice on the side, and allow one splurge dinner. Our carb intake per day was easily less than 30 gm most days of the week.

After 5 months, my doctor's exam gave me the results; I not only got down to a very desirable weight (college years), but my lipid levels vastly dropped to normal levels- cholesterol from over 260 to 191, and triglycerides from near 300 down below 100, all without meds. BP was 120 /70. Now it is a matter of maintenance; we've added a couple more semi-splurge meals in the week, but the majority still adhere to the low carb paradigm. Even my intake of alcohol has been lower in carbs; if drinking beer, I mostly drink Michelob Ultra with an occasional IPA, and gin martinis. I feel great.

    Diets are temporary.
Which often means, your weight goals are temporary.

Lifestyle changes to your diet (and eating is a big part of any lifestyle) last forever.

    Here’s a litmus test:
If you have cheat days, you’re dieting.

When I was diagnosed with celiac, which manifested itself later in my life, I had to make wholesale changes to what I ate. It wasn’t optional.

For better or worse, this is my life now.

When the doctor tells me I have something really bad wrong with me I am going to start smoking, eating and drinking and every other thing you shouldn't do for your health.

You can't exercise enough to overeat too. It takes an insane amount of exercise to burn even a small amount of calories. Much better to fast than try to exercise it away.

Three years so far with the life change and doing well, except for the wife. She hates everything about my food, when I eat, what I eat. But she just had a heart attack with nothing she can/will do to improve her situation and I just got a clean bill of health, lost weight and physically active and off all meds.
