I've owned in the past a RRA LAR8 Elite operator 308, DPMS LR-308 and a partially built Aero M5 308. All of them were good rifles except the Rock River which I had difficulty getting good groups with until I found Winchester 168gr Match. The other rifles would group cheaper 150gr corelock and Federal non typical 150gr within 1 to 1.5 inches.

Anyway I always end up selling my AR-10's for one reason or another. Mostly because friends want to buy them and I usually hook them up.

Now I want to buy "MY" last AR-10. A factory built rifle. No more sub $1,500 guns. My budget would be about 4k for the rifle itself.

Rifles I am heavily consideringare LWRC REPR, Daniel Defense not sure which DDM5?, Knights Armament SR-25, Scar 20 (I know not an "AR") POF and Larue. Maybe a Barrett Rec 10. I'm looking at 20" barrel in all of them.

My plan is to have a mid to long range DMR. Typical shooting distance from 200- 500. Rapid engagement. I can push to 1000 out at the ranch if I hike to a hill top. Off a rest or bipod so it Doesn't need to be the lightest thing. I will be shooting pigs with this as well, but mostly steel. I want a 308. I don't care if 6.5 shoots flatter. I already have 308 ammo, mags. Speaking of mags. I want it to use the SR-25/DMPS pattern.

Does anyone here have a lot of experience with one or multiples of the higher end rifles in 308? I want moa or better accuracy with 150 gr projectiles. I managed to get that from my DPMS. Not like standard ball ammo, but good hunting ammo. I'm hoping for even better with match grade/ reloads.

Also DI vs Piston? Don't have a suppressor, but that may come later.

Also I'm left handed. For this reason the LWRC is at the top of my list, because I love their lower set up.

What I'm looking for is the last 308 I'll ever buy. The best of the best. The one I will finally keep forever and be buried with. I can stretch my budget if needed, but I figure 4k should get me in the range or well above for some of these rifles.

Thoughts or recommendations? Besides telling me to buy a Bolt action.

My buddy had a REPR. It wasn't near as accurate as he was looking for. Especially not for the price. It was in 308.

The SCAR doesn't fit left handers well.

    Can't help much beyond that.
I see some people love the REPR and than others say they don't group worth a crap. Seems to be the trend with all the rifles. I'm really hoping spending the big money will get me a really fine rifle. It should. Otherwise I could spend just less on a M&P-10 amd be just as happy.

You know the deal, most guns are more accurate than the shooter and most shooters blame the gun. Hell, even I’ve done that with .17HMR on a windy day.

I'd go with an armalite super sass. It has everything you'd already want and comes in a grand under your budget. If I wasn't such a damn cheap skate I would have bought that instead of my db10. The gen2s also accept pmags IIRC.

It will mostly likely come down to what I can find in stock locally. I'm sure I can find a better deal online, but when spending this much money y I really want to hold the rifle before I buy.

    Somewhere in Texas!
I have the older KAC EM-25 (AKA EMC Enhanced Match Carbine). Very nice rifle, while it is a bit dated, I would not get rid of it! I have never really gone long-range, the longest distance I had was 100 yards, it was possible to get nickel-sized groups with milsurp 147 grn ammunition, and a relatively inexpensive scope. I need to zero it again, I removed the scope for storage.

I am partial to Knight's since that is my limited experience. This post is probably no help to you whatsoever! Damn, it is hard being sober!

You can spend all the money you want to for one of the big name brands, but most won't shoot much smaller groups than any of the $1500 and under guns.
I've had a DPMS LR260-H for many years. I pretty much just use it for hunting pigs and load 140 gr Sierra Gamekings for it. It has always shot under MOA, and generally close to 1/2 MOA.
The only changes that I've done is a good trigger, a adjustable gas block, and changed the stock.

Unless you just want to have a name on a gun, there's no reason to spend $3k+ on a large frame AR.
