This. If a person commits a violent crime with a gun, no parole. If they murder someone, automatic death penalty.
Not sure about that auto death penalty. if I recall the story I heard in 1978 F. Lee Bailey was at a trial in Houston. I don’t remember the outcome of the case but Bailey was interviewed by the local press. He was asked why in TX a defendant could be hung for stealing a horse but perhaps only get a few years for homicide? Bailey, reportedly, responded, “As explainEd to me that man might have needed killing but that horse didn’t need stealing.“

Personally, I support the death penalty, for certain crimes.

Some people in life are just evil, and no matter how long a sentence hey get, they will never be rehabilitated back into society.

Some people try and argue that the death penalty id a deterrent for crime or really bad criminal actions. BS! It has never been about deterrence, and anyone who believes that nonsense is either naive or delusional. The death penalty is punishment. The most harsh we can deal out for certain crimes against society. A jury, and a judge, representing society have determined that this person is so far beyond any measure of rehabilitation or redemption that they can ever be place back among civilized society.

It definitely would be a deterrent if they got put to death right after being convicted, sentenced and leaving the courthouse.

I support the death penalty, I just do not support or trust the government to do it right. You catch someone in the act of harming a member of your family? Kill that sack of shit. Hell, if you have a universal blood type and know how to do a transfusion, make it take a couple of days.

The .gov? I don’t trust them to do a damned thing without horrendously screwing it up. Why would anyone trust them with the power of life and death based on the decision of 12 people that were not smart enough to get out of jury duty.

I'll have to disagree with part of that. There are many things that yes, the government totally screws up. i think his is why I believe that a jury, picked to represent us as society is important in the legal system. If nothing more than a measure of checks and balance against the government.

For the record, I have never tried to shirk getting out of jury duty. I believe it to be part of my civic duty to attend and to participate.

Neither have I , and I have never been seated on a jury( except for traffic court in mustang ridge)
Fact is though, most of the folks I have seen at JD are actively and creatively trying to get out of it. I have seen police officers come to a jury duty summons in uniform. Why would you do that unles it is to be struck early.
The folks that tend to get seated quite often have no business sitting on a jury.

I can see this. It’s easy for the working class to put job first. My attendance has always been good so In most cases I have no issues taking a point for missing work. Each area is different too...so that’s a pro or a con. You could have all retired folks (awesome jury) or jobless druggies.

Funny story and I think I posted about this when it happened. I get moved to Texas and looking at my forwarded mail. I see Linn county in Oregon sent me a jury notice far far faaar after it’s been established with the Oregon dmv I moved, turned in my chl, and being a Texas resident. So some time passed. I call the guy...so I can’t attend. Oh why? I’m a Texas resident lol. Conversation goes from there and I’m getting no answers as to why this type of glitch happens.

It is in the rise and more and more novice gun owners are armed. Most gun owners only say what cannot be done to reduce gun violence. I say it is time we begin talking about what can be done to try to prevent these shootings. I am not talking about repealing 2A.

What are practical ideas that might save lives.

One idea I have is to try people for manslaughter if they failed to control access to their guns and someone in their household, or a guest got hold of one and shot someone, even accidentally. Especially if the shooter or shootee was a child. No excuse for that to happen in my book.

There is no gun problem, there is a people problem. Back in my day, there were fewer laws and we could have rifles in our trucks at school, yet there were hardly any school/mass shootings. Why? Because folk back then actually respected each other. Now, this country is filled with whinny little cunts, that expect shit to be handed to them, they are not held accountable for their actions, Lord forbid one gets punished for doing wrong, they have no remorse for any wrong doing and they have turned their back on God. This is why we have these problems now, this Nation is filled with mental illness and mindlessness. But oh no's, let's not blame the person, let's blame an object, it could hurt one's feelings. Prayer and a good spanking would solve the majority of issues.

It happens because one department doesn't inform the other. Many places, jury summons are based on voter rolls. Bet you are still registered to vote in Oregon.

I can't totally disagree with that either. I have never sat on a jury, but have been called quite a few times.

Yes, there are many, that should probably never be anywhere near a jury pool!

But what other options do we have? And I agree with your sentiment that it should not be left only in the hands of the government to dole out justice. So picking a jury for the citizens of the community may not be perfect, but IMO, it's our best option available.

More laws aren’t the answer. There’s already over 20k gun related laws on the books.

    Education is the best way.

I’m not convinced that “gun violence” is any worse now that any other time in history. We just have better (debatable) and faster access to nationwide news.

As another poster said, we don’t go to anti gun sites and stir shit. No reason in the world to tolerate communist pieces of shit doing it here.
Hah, yes like going to a vegan site and sharing your ideas on steak seasoning or asking what they can do to be more tolerant of hunters
