    Godzilla?

I loved the original, but I watched it recently and it wasn't nearly as good as I remembered. The remake is not scary at all, but at least it is humorous and quirky.
The original Godzilla movies (and most of the followup ones) where the special effects look like they were done by a 4th grader are the best.
Some of them you can actually see the wires holding up the monsters !

The remake of True Grit followed the book much better than the JW version.
The scene in the remake where Matty was haggling with the horse trader was superb.
I would never speak ill if The Duke, and think he was a great Rooster, but Bridges was impeccable in every way.

The TV Reboot thread got me thinking. I voted Rockford Files, but immediately thought "Naw, they'd screw it up".
But could they make it even better?

Which made me think of movies where the remake was actually better. It is rare, but I will go first.

    True Grit
    Cannot agree, bubba.

And therein lies the beauty of this forum. You don't have to.
But, you can't think of ONE example? C'mon, man!
Well, clearly, the OP is wildly mistaken and has been potentially misguided by forces contrary to the bad-assness of John Wayne.

Nope- I can’t. Re-doos typically disappoint me. Prove me wrong.

Also factor in some movies and their sequels.

One that comes to mind. Smokey and the Bandit. The first one was and will always be a classic car movie and one of the best movies of it's time. Only coming in second place to Star Wars that came out the same summer of 1977.

But the sequels were pretty lame.

Fast and Furious franchise? They started getting kind of lame after about the third one. But I understand. If it's profitable to keep making them, then you keep making them. From a point of view of commercialism, and making money. it makes perfect sense. From an artistic point of view, none at all.

Some movies are great as remakes, some, not so much. Jeff Bridges is a damn good actor, and I like many movies he has made, but True grit ain't one of them IMO.

I'm a huge John Wayne fan going back many decades, and I'm sorry, there just isn't an actor of the status of John Wayne.

I'm a huge Steve McQueen fan. Pierce Brosnan did a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair that McQueen did the late 1960's. It was a good movie, but Pierce Brosnan ain't Steve McQueen.
He wasn't a James Bond either!
