Does anyone know how Texas law would view a concealed rifle - say an AR-7 or such? If one could carry such a weapon in a concealed manner, what would the legal team say?

I just re-checked the code & did not notice anything about Hospitals.
I thought "some" Hospitals were prohibited???

Hospitals are listed under PC 46.035 (Unlawful Carry by a person Licensed to Carry a Concealed Handgun), AND they are only off limits if they give proper 30.06 notice.

Penal Code 46.03 list where weapons listed as prohibited weapons and firearms are not permitted. 46.035 then list places where a CHL holder cannot carry a handgun.

Chapter 46 of the penal code deals with weapons. As long as the rifle is not an NFA item (short barreled, overall length, etc.,) it is not regulated under the penal code. There is a section in the disorderly conduct laws (PC 42) that makes it an offense to display a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a public place in a manner calculated to alarm.

Well, I have a Sub2K and was just curious if there are places where I could legally take it, but not my CC...

I have no idea what a "Sub2K" is, but if it is a legal length long gun then the places listed in 46.035 of the Penal Code are places where you could take it, concealed, that you could not take your concealed handgun.

Look up PC 46.035. That only applies to CHL holders carrying handguns under the authority of their CHL. You can carry your rifle in those locations but not your handgun.

Just get a Sig P556. It is considered a handgun and if you could possibly conceal it then you can carry it also as a handgun. I have tried and it requires a sling and a long coat

To answer the questions in a blunt fashion:

You can carry a rifle or shotgun anywhere you like, using any techniques you like, so long as you don't carry them where firearms are prohibited.

Since rifles and shotguns are not legally considered "concealable", you may carry them in places where you can't carry handguns as a CHL holder.

As has been noted, a "disorderly conduct" charge may be applied, depending on your method of carry.

It has nothing to do with concealability. It is the status of the firearm. If it is a HANDGUN, then you cannot carry outside of PC 46.02 or the exceptions in 46.15(b) without a CHL. A person carrying a handgun, even with a CHL, is restricted also under 46.03 and 46.035. A person carrying a long gun is not restricted under 46.035.

Where is it in writing that a rifle or shotgun is not "considered" concealable? Where is "concealable" in the law?

    My point, exactly.

I don't think so. I asked questions. You wrote that shotguns and rifles aren't considered "concealable". My question is who says so?

You also said that since rifles and shotguns are not considered concealable that you can carry them where handguns as a CHL holder. The truth is, concealability has nothing to do with it.

If it's not restricted by law, then it's legal.

There is no mention of "concealability" concerning long guns in the Texas law, ergo, it's legal.

I can say "The sun is hot" or "The sun is a constant fusion reaction, that imparts radio frequencies that we perceive as heat"

My explanation is not wrong, it's just not "technical".

But then he cannot carry at 46.035 places, which I think was his point in making this thread. ;)
Exactly... I don't want to create a stir (that's the whole point of concealing, right?), but if I can't legally CC a handgun, then I might consider taking the rifle along so long as I won't get arrested on a legal charge. One or two less places to feel like a target.
It fits in a 16in laptop case alongside my laptop. It's a pretty cool little rifle!
