https://www.nraam.org/ is back with updated dates.

Again, it has a sign-up page to get information when the official housing opens up for booking through the NRA or whatever contractor is handling their bookings.

Please keep in mind that the housing for the previous iteration that was supposed to happen in September was pretty much garbage. Everything was way too far away. Very few people were able to get housing in the hotel attached to the convention center.

A quick check of deals for downtown hotels within walking distance shows that, just like last time, not everyone has gotten word, yet. There are bargains downtown for now. The Athens Hotel (which isn't a great place but it's within walking distance) has rooms for $95/night from the Thursday before until the Monday after the meeting. Once they get word of the Annual Meeting coming back, those prices will more than double. Or maybe they already have heard; $95/night is double what they were charging this long before the September meeting.

Also just like last time, the Hilton Americas, the hotel attached to the Convention Center, shows ZERO room availability.

Of course, a block further away, you can get a room at the Embassy Suites for about $300/night.

If anyone sees the Hilton Americas rooms become available via nraam.org, please post in this thread immediately. That announcement was up, then gone, before anyone here had seen it except for one or two folks.

I'll post more as I find out more.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of you.

    Wait.

All of you. That's right...I'm looking forward to seeing all of you.

<Sheesh, this being diplomatic thing sure can be tiring...>

Not every hotel downtown is on this map, but the ones tracked by visithouston.com show these daily rates for May 26-30. It looks like they already know we're coming. :)

Will the vendors actually show up this time?
I wish I knew. The last time they seemed to abandon the meeting within a week of the first big vendor to cancel. The cancellation was announced, iirc, in August and the meeting was scheduled for September.

I guess that just means we'll have to wait and see.

There is a big tent city if you’re into urban camping, right behind the convention center.
I haven't wandered around that neighborhood since the new construction drove out all the good Asian eateries.

    Is it all that bad?

I am guessing it would be nice to attend but the distance to travel, the hotel rates and the fact I'd have to board my pooch, pretty much put it out of the question for me. Those things and the fact it seems, if I understand correctly, that last year exhibitors cancelled near the last minute makes it seem like it is not worth taking the risk of going and being sorely disappointed.

    That’s a complicated answer.

So they built fancy apartments townhouses or Whatever on the other side of 45. And there is discover green down there which is fancy pants.
Then they have those fancy hotels. BUT right under the bridge. Where there isn’t parking lots. It’s tent cities.

    That’d gotten worse.

Last couple times I went was during the World Series. There was a heavy police presence. And the guys weren’t aggressively panhandling. Most weren’t really working the crowd. Just hanging out.

Park on the street. It’s inexpensive.
And if you want to waste a lot of money but have the most convenient parking, arrive early and valet your car at the hotel. The available slots for non-guests to valet a car will be gone by 9 or 10 in the morning but it sure is the easiest way to park.

Personally, I don't think it's worth the $27/day it costs, plus tip, plus a surcharge for oversize vehicles (i.e., don't show up in an F250 unless you want to spend a $53 surcharge).

Also, they have a bad reputation on Yelp for poor service and possibly rifling through people's cars looking for stuff.

I think I just talked myself out of using the valet. :)

Just got an email from the NRA. If you want to stay in one of the official hotels, this will be of interest. I can't imagine booking some of the hotels that were offered the first time but maybe this time we'll have a shot at getting into the hotel attached to the convention center.

    The salient portion reads:

NRA Show dates will be May 27-29, 2022

... hotel reservations ... will be opening on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 12:00pm ET/9:00am PT.

Be sure to visit www.nraam.org at that time to access the hotel booking link.

I have a feeling that at the time specified you'll have to be sitting at your computer, feverishly refreshing, and prepared to fill in forms with lightning speed if you want to get decent accommodations.
