Besides I still cant find good Mexican food in Texas.

Texmex ya. Mexican, not yet but I ain't no quitter.

If you are in Fort Worth, Northside is a place called Esperanza’s. A sister to the Joe T Garcias family owns the place. Definitely more Mexican than Tex-Mex. They also have a bakery on the other side. Great food, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Arnaldo Richard's Pico's in Houston is on my want-to-try list. I've eaten at two of his previous restaurants. Hell, I've eaten at his home. He lived in the apartment below me 40 years ago on Gulfton in SW Houston, right at the time it was transitioning into "the Gulfton Ghetto". I can't forget him and his soon-to-be wife. No matter how late she stayed, she always fired up her noisy Chevy Vega to drive home just before sun-up because she was still in high school while he was attending UofH and her parents made it clear they'd have him brought up on statutory rape charges if she ever stayed overnight. Oh, my, the party on her 18th birthday was epic...and the first time she stayed over all night. :)

His restaurants have been plagued by bad business partners and have been subject to valid criticism for being overpriced. Heck, the TripAdvisor reviews for his current joint are all over the place. Some people love it and some say it's overpriced and mediocre. He's certainly gone way up-market from his humble first attempt on Bellaire just off Hillcroft in SW Houston. That place was a dump but the food was to die for.

In whatever iteration, though, his restaurants have always been about real Mexican food brought to you by a guy born into a multigenerational tradition of running restaurants in Mexico city.

Has anybody eaten there? I'd love to hear what you think.
