    That's what I was thinking.
I didn't have any issues last year.
    Me too....
They seem to be playing some sort of game now. They never sent our 2020 refund. Months after filing they sent some nonsense letter that said something was "off" with our filing but no details. They said no action was needed. I checked their site a few times later and it always said "processing". Now, they want me to file again and they haven't even settled the prior year?

Yeah, I'm not very confident in mailing in my tax return but I don't think I should have to give them three forms of ID then video chat with someone to prove who I am.

No. You SHOULDN'T have to. But they wield a ton of power and sometimes you have to jump through their hoops.

One year I missed ONE DIGIT of a kid's SSN and they sent a huge packet showing all the steps I had to do to resolve it (Hint: it could have been cleared up in a one minute phone call. "Oh, the one was supposed to be a SEVEN?? Here, let me fix that in they system.") The options they offered were hilarious. I could easily check one box and give up the kid as a deduction (IOW, not get the full refund); OR I could jump through all the hoops and it would take "weeks" to fix it.

Easy way or the hard way, pardner?

ETA: I chose the hard way. It was more about the principle than the money at that point, but I figured "screw 'em. Let them take the weeks and do the hard work of a changing a one to a seven."

That's such nonsense.... I hate dealing with our government, I had to jump through hoops to get my last name changed. They originally denied me because I refused to send them my drivers license, they wanted me to send them my actual license not a copy.

Guess that's to keep all the people requiring a BOS/picture of DL, from changing peoples names....

Yeah, I had sent in my birth certificate and marriage license as well. After they rejected it, I called them and when I finally got a hold of someone, they told me that it should have never been rejected since both my marriage license and by birth certificate had my birthdate and social on it... It was a pain trying to get a hold of someone though. So, I'm wondering if somewhere in the system it shows I was rejected.

They rejected my tax return saying I needed to verify who I was.
The most common reasons for the IRS to reject a return for ID issues are that you made a typo on it (like putting in the wrong SSN) or someone else has already filed your return.

The first return filed with your SSN gets the refund. When thieves steal your identity in order to steal your refund, they file as early as possible. The onus to prove who you are always falls on the head of the second person to use that SSN.

If you're in that situation, God help you.

As for the methods of proving who you are, that's a really important process that's never been easy (nor should it be easy) because it's so important. Unfortunately, the IRS is attempting to integrate more modern methods to verify ID and they are truly screwing the pooch at every turn. That could be a thread all on its own.

One final note - Make sure you're dealing with the IRS. Some scammers have gotten very sophisticated about impersonating the IRS when they try to steal your identity.

Much better today. Sore throat back to just a tickle. Cough almost gone. I still hurt in wierd spots. My left elbow aches like crazy and it's one joint I haven't had so much as an injection in. My left SI joint where my last surgery was and wierd headaches like a sinus infection in small spots all over.

Still a bit screwed up on sleep but after a nap it's back to the grind. Housework and walk.

The wife screwed up everything the 5 days I've been sick. From chili to housework to shopping. Chili recipe abuse almost required a divorce lawyer. Lol I dont blame her for the house stuff as she works 60 to 70 hours a week anyways but the chili, theres only so much a man can take.

People ask how we stayed married so long. We quit taking such things personally long ago. Say your piece, let it go and move on cause it really dosen't matter in the end.

Well except messin with my chili recipe. No sweet sausage and no cajun spice was almost a deal breaker. We send chili out to friends of my wife and daughter so we will see if they notice the difference in mine and the wife's.
