Of course this happens again. We can put armed security in banks/money trucks, but can’t put them in front of schools. Shake my damn head.

Interesting and huge problem. Banks and security trucks are private businesses. Public schools are funded by taxes as is the police force. Many property owners argue down their taxes each year, or work to have exempt lands (ag, wildlife, open space exemptions) so as to pay as little tax as possible. Most people, when given a choice, do not vote for higher taxes.

Then something happens. People say they want better teachers and they want their schools to be protected. Where does that money come from? It doesn't come from the taxes people aren't paying. In short, we want something for nothing and we want it to be really good. We don't want no highly decorated Parkland cop who hid and literally helped keep other officers from responding. We want Medal of Honor quality cops who are not only willing to die for the school kids (never mind their own families) and who will fight like a Special Forces soldier taking down UBL. Because...God forbid that the cop trying to save the kids manages to injure one of them in the process.

Many schools in Texas have SROs. Do they have them at each and every school? Nope? Most do not.

My kids went to private school on my parents' dime. What happened when the school decided to add multiple cops to protect the school? The price of school increased. Lots of people complained that for what they were paying to have their kids educated, the school should ALREADY have provided armed law enforcement security. Again, people want something for nothing.

I can tell you from having been to citizen police academy classes and listening to talks by SROs in more than one district that elementary schools tend to receive the least attention or to receive it last because school shooters are expected to usually be persons involved with the school. Statistically, that is true. So for permanent installation of SROs, high schools usually get the first officers, followed by middle schools. Last come the elementary schools.

I don't know about Uvalde ISD, but Uvalde isn't exactly one of the rich counties of the state of Texas. It is mostly rural and so most of the land is going to be generating very little in tax revenue. They aren't likely to have SROs and if they do, then they would not like be at the lower schools.

So where does the money come from to provide officers to protect kids. How much are residents willing to pay to make it happen? Historically, they fight paying more.

So where does the money come from to provide officers to protect kids.

I imagine you'll get a long list of suggestions, but I'll start with the 40 billion that Biden wants to give to Ukraine.
Also, how about the billions we spend each year on feeding and housing illegals?
And the billions we spend on military bases and personnel protecting shitty nations that wouldn't piss on the USA if it were on fire.

Oh, there's plenty of money to protect our kids, we just have to elect politicians like Trump who will prioritize the USA and its citizens over foreigners.

If those pictures are really him, their backgrounds suggest a privileged class not common for Uvalde... I'm thinking he was probably coddled for his whole life...
Not necessarily. I see a window AC unit. Or through the wall, not central AC.

very little in tax revenue. Nope they get robin hood money and build fancy new schools if the admin doesn't pocket the money.

I will get on a soap box for a while.
I was working in school security for a while (providing equipment) and was appalled at the lack of security thinking of the school personnel. Doors left open, kids roaming the halls, un-restricted access from the outside. They did have RO's drinking coffee.
This case, bad boy went in through playground fence and side door (where kids go to playground) and directly into classrooms. Obviously knew the routine of the school.
For good security you need just one access point and barrier protection in that area. Armed personnel helps. Playground doors locked after the kids come in. Churches have to decide if they want to lock doors after services begin. Yup, Israelis airlines had a separate door for pilots to enter and NO access from passenger area. They also strip searched ALL passengers before boarding.
Years ago banks decided to forgo the armed guard and just let insurance take the hit. Can't afford to do that with schools.
    Off the box now.
Gun LAWS don't do a darn thing to protect us. Never have! Bad guy doesn't care about LAWS.

If they want to grab guns in New York, California and Colorado who cares let them. Then these perps can flock to those gun free states .

    Back on the 'box'.
News last nite showed the FBI semi truck there and 'investigation' continues. Why? What a waste of resources. Nothing to investigate! Not going to prosecute anyone. Make LE feel good? Local LE were looking for him after shooting grandmother, didn't find him in time. Nothing left to do but help survivors and render aid, at the time. Locals can handle that. The rest is just 'press/political' attention.
