I’ve got the commander sized Ruger SR1911, and it‘s a lot of gun for the money. I also have a RIA 1911 and have shot a few other RIA 1911s, and they punch well above their weight as well. I also have a Colt, Remington, & SA in 1911, and based on my experiences, I’d go with either the Ruger or the RIA to start. They are all fine pieces; it’s just my preference
I don't quibble over the manufacturer for me it's fit feel and the performance.. and what I shoot best

I've had my RIA for about a decade now and just got a Tisas for $550. "Under $1000" theres a LOT of options out there. Dad had a Taurus as well. For budget 1911's I'm not certain there is a 'bad' one out there; RIA, Tisas, Girsan, Taurus, all seem to be fantastic. No they're not going to compete against a brand for triple the price, but if you just want a 1911 that is accurate for the range, they'll do fine. I wasn't a fan of dad's kimber Ultra CDP II because of the wonky disassembly process, and it was a commander size which sometimes just wouldn't cycle and according to the internet, shorter barrel 1911's aren't as good for cycling.

I got a used springfield for $750 which has a nicer finish than my RIA, but the Tisas machining feels on par with the Springfield for $250 less.

In short, it doesn't matter what you get, they're all good now. Don't be brand myopic, and don't think you're getting double the gun for double the price.

If I was gunna save up some extra pennies to buy once, cry once....I'd get a Colt. If you can't wait & just have to have a 1911, the Rock Islands are decent for the price. My 2nd option would be the BUL ARMORY 1911s. I've handled a few & shot @Byrd666 BUL 1911, they shoot nice as well as look nice.

Ha Ha believe what the internet says?
    Exactly.

I once ran my Springfield Range Officer Champion (commander sized 45 acp) so long without cleaning that it wouldn’t go into battery using the slide release, but would while being fired. Ran 500 more rounds through it that way without a hiccup. There’s a reason it’s my primary EDC.

Only thing about those if in a self defense shooting you got to give up a 4k- 8k pistol to the cops for a indeterminate period of time

Budget friendly wise I’ll stick to rock island.

From shooting and fondling, I have good things to say about the following:

    Ruger 1911.
    Remington 1911.
    Iver Johnson (had a thrasher)
Iwi (was the officer type length and an amazing gun for at the time 700.00 something).

Out of all of them...I’d pick the Israeli made 1911.

Yeah its what they said 10 years ago. Surely the stereotypes had to start somewhere. Perhaps it was somewhat true until manufacturers got the right spings or manufacturer tolerances got better. It was meant to be a bit of satire, its why you can't just take advice from strangers on "whats the best budget 1911?" because half the internet will say RIA et.al. is fine, the other half will scoff and say you cannot get a good 1911 for under $1500.

My Kimber Ultra CDP II and SA EMP, each have over 20 years of carry and use. Each has cycled without failure since new. "The Internet" got it wrong on these two models.
Possibly the internet could use some instruction on cleaning and handling a short barrel 1911.

Definitely CUSTOM guns ..... Definitely not under 1k as titled by the OP. Before Chinaflu you could get a Colt 1911 under 1k.
Nowadays it's hard to find a Colt anything.

I’ve owned a couple Kimbers and been happy with them. If I were buying one today I’d get the TLE.

For not much more money though, there are still some new Dan Wesson A2s out there.

Anyone familiar with with SDS 1911s? I'm seeing they're priced comparable to RIA. I'm not really familiar with that manufacturer.
