Someone mention Springfield Armory yet? They make really good 1911s and they have several lines and barrel lengths to choose from.

I should also mention, Smith and Wesson E series 1911's are nice. There's one stainless model left @ riflegear for $979

Or if you just want to go dirt cheap, SDS tisas 1911s are on sale for $319. I'll post a link in the good gun deal thread for both:

Ya, I’ve got one (Springfield). No frills Parkerized govt model. Only got because Primary Arms had a special in 2020 at $499 that I couldn’t ignore. It’s been fine. Actually a NM serial# and it’s a lot tighter than my Colt

Had the same gun. It ran perfectly.
Gave it the bro-in-law when he let my family stay at his place during a hurricane.

A few years ago I was looking just like you are. I spent a couple years putting my hands on every 1911 that I could find and that was a lot. I even looked at stuff that I couldn't begin to afford. I finally decided on the Magnum Research Desert Eagle 1911G. I liked it because it had a trigger equal to the best, and better than most everything else. I've had it for 5+ years and love it. I have since bought a 1911 RIA in 9mm and like it, too. For the money you can't beat the RIA 1911s, if you are on a budget. Make sure you at least try the trigger on a Desert Eagle.

I'm thinking about joining the 1911 club and looking at 45ACP. Looks like Rock Island and Kimber have some nice looking offerings for under a grand. Unfortunately Colts and Dan Wessons are a bit out of my budget.

Kimber 1911 reviews seem to be all over the place. People make YouTube videos for the purpose of trashing them. I've seen lots of folks say as soon as they switched the magazine with a better quality one it fixed any jamming issues.

    Any thoughts? Recommendations?
Hi, some may balk at this recommendation but I really like my Tisas 1911A1 .45ACP I found on gun broker. Yes it only comes with one mag (7+1) but it is a very solid firearm especially for the money. Less than $400 before shipping and ffl.

Ruger sr1911 best money for a 1911. Has a lot of custom parts on it.

You can still find a workable USGI 1911A1 to add a few new springs and maybe replace a worn part or two and have a decent shooter with history.
I got lucky last year and found a 1911 Colt Black Army in nice original shape, very little wear for $1200.00.
Also, Ballester Molinas and Argentine Colts are quite a bit under a grand for really nice ones.
Just put some time into a search and the deals are out there.....seen some nice stuff pretty reasonable on Texas Gun Trader.

I was looking around town for the Ruger sr1911. I couldn't find a place that had one in stock that I could physically hold. Places could order it but I'm one of those people who likes to actually hold it before I drop $1000.

    I'm sure it's a good quality 1911, I like Ruger products.

    OOOOH - that's a sexy gun. I like.
Yeah, I found it at the local range. I had never heard of the company before, but after googling it I found a lot of positive reviews. It's heavy duty, the slide is super smooth. Felt great in my hands. Only thing I didn't care for was it has all black sights, which I'm going to swap them out with some night sights. So it's an easy fix.

Range report on the Alpha Foxtrot 1911

Finally got around to trying my new 1911. The slide is extremely smooth. Prior to using, I disassembled it to oil it. Shot 50 rounds of Magtech 230gr fmj with no malfunctions. I'm not a fan of all black sights but it was still extremely accurate. It's a very heavy duty gun so there wasn't much recoil. Loved the trigger. The only thing is the bushing was extremely tight, to the point where it messed up the plastic bushing wrench, i had to buy a metal bushing wrench (which worked). I let the gunsmith take a look at it and he said it was tight, but not out of the ordinary. All in all I'm happy with my purchase.

Plus pistol whipping with people with Tupperware is uncouth
