Folks, I keep seeing this story, or variants of it on social media. I have a real issue with reliable news sources right now -- there are none. Is this for real? If yes, we need to head it off. If no, please fill me in.
Don't they realize people will die?

China, Manufacturing, and Covid. I suppose this video could have gone into a dozen different threads.

Yet another of communism’s highly effective 5-year plans. Good news is if they really enforce it, that gives US enough time to get semiconductor factories up and operating before any real price & inventory relief comes from China.

Could be a blessing in disguise.

With the current crop of people in charge of the Fed Gov?
It could just be the straw that causes a total implosion too.

Question. How long will it take to get factories up and producing just for our electronic, and pharmacutical, neccessities? Forget about everything else. Look at what has happened to the auto industry because of electronic shortages. We get 80% ( IIRC)of the chemicals we need for drugs from China as well.
And the EU is in an even worse position than we are.

This is a total guess, but I'd say at least 8 years.
You need to first create the factories to process the raw ingredients into the product that the first step of the manufacturing process needs, then build the next plant, and the next. It's like a game of dominos. It's not just building the factories, but the equipment for those factories. To ramp up like that quickly takes WAY more resources and labor than we have. That's highly technical expertise needed to do all that and let's face it, the current population is devolving back to chimps, so it's unlikely to happen.

I’m aware of LEGO building a factory here , but that’s it. Textiles I think will never return. I see maybe a lot of mfg moving from overseas to Mexico as a strong possibility

    Ok.
Where? I must have missed the new plants opening up.

Samaung is buidling a $17B semiconductor factory in Taylor. GlobiTech announced yesterday they will build a semiconductor factory in Sherman. That’s in addition to TI’s planned expansion there, too.

That’s just a slice of whats going on.

Textiles are already returning. It's nothing like the old days, though. Everything is automated and far, far fewer employees are needed. Much of our clothing is going to be made in the USA again even if the industry doesn't create a whole lot of jobs.

    It died with COVID?
Yep, it's over since even my work has called for everyone back in the office. I've worked a hybrid schedule for 10+ years but that ends Friday. Everyone back and those who don't return will be considered voluntary terminations. Of course they want to cut costs with the recession getting worse so having people quit is easy.
