The first gun I legitimately ever owned I inherited officially when my grandfather died in '54/55?. It was his Winchester model 57. Per his story he supposedly bought it from Marshall Fields in Chicago the same day they sold the Thompsons that were used in the Valentine's Day massacre. It was also the gun my dying adopted mother taught me how to hunt with. It's still in my closet.
An antique, single-shot Mossberg (I think it was a Mossberg) 12 gauge that belonged to my great-grandparents. I never shot it - was afraid of messing it up. It was among the guns that were stolen when my dad's house was burglarized in 2013.
Ruger Mark 1 Bicentennial issue with bull barrel and walnut thumb rest grips.
I wish I still had it.
Actually I do still have it but it went through a house fire so it is not functional and well beyond repair. I probably should dispose of it, but I cant bring myself to do it.
I got a used Marlin bolt action 3 shot 410 with an adjustable choke for Christmas when I was 8, which I gave to my little brother when I bought a 12-gauge Remington 1100 at 15. A few years ago my brother and I were doing some gun swapping when he told me there was one other gun I needed. When I unzipped the case and pulled it out I might have choked up a little bit. It's in terrible shape, but I cleaned all the rust off and still shoot a few rounds through it every once in a while. I do plan to refinish it someday, but then again maybe my kids will want to that someday instead.
