Alright. I know I'm not the greatest shooter, but I shoot a lot and have pretty decent fundamentals. I can put a saucer sized group at 15 yards pretty much at will with a pistol.

I go out with a friend and his new girlfriend shooting yesterday, he's a former marine, but says he hasn't fired a pistol ever except for basic until 3 weeks ago.

Every single time he goes up to fire he makes a quarter sized group with 17 rounds. I move the target out to 10 yards, same thing, I move it out to 15 same thing. My gun, his gun, her Glock 42. He gives me a dumb look and says "it's just luck" I say "name, you're the best pistol shooter I've ever seen if you've only been doing this 3 weeks."

I did the dickens drill. I put the target at 25 yards. Got the timer ready, had him put the gun on the table loaded and chambered and said go. 14 shots. One jam which he cleared like he had always known how and he hit 13 shots in the 9 ring.. in 15 seconds.

What I'm trying to get is, has anyone ever seen anything like it? someone just pick up a pistol, any pistol, and shoot like a trained competitive professional?

I can't say I've seen that in shooting, but I have been amazed at how fast some have picked up welding. I call them naturals. I hate them and admire them at the same time. I had to put in a lot of work to get to my level of welding, they just make it look too easy.

Was he an officer? As far as I know, enlisted Marines never qualified with pistols in boot camp

I didnt get a chance to qualify with one until about two years in and thats only because I was an armorer and we had to qual unless we wanted to carry a rifle around the armory every day

Sounds like he is just a hell of a natural pistol shooter

Sounds like your dude has some sort of gift for it. Some people are just built different. Now throw him at some comps and see how well he really shines.

I had a friend whose eye hand coordination was nuts unnatural.

He would throw bullseyes consistently until he got what should be drunk.

Then he would start backing up a pace and throw until he was 30 plus feet hitting the bullseye every time.

His pistol marksman ship was likewise unnatural.

Good question, I have no idea. I'm asking his rank and MOS

As for the girlfriend comment "new" months and theyve gone out shooting the last 3 weekends. The dude is tall, handsome, smart, and well built. He didnt need to shoot good to impress her.
@MTA89 "I was a Sergeant. At the end of my enlistment (6 years), I had a primary MOS of 6467 and a secondary MOS of 6468 (I was a weirdo that carried 2 MOS's). 6467 was for "CASS"
