I voted no on the agreement. Many of the changes are still unclear and are said to be determined at local levels. I was not going to accept something that I don’t even know the complete terms. I also feel that the “raise” is a slap in the face as it doesn’t coincide with inflation. The $1,000 annual bonus is a wash since our insurance increase will cost more than that annually. I’d rather try for something better than just accept what someone tried to force.
Hmmm.. sounds vaguely like a health care law that was rammed through over the past decade. Something about pass it so you know what’s in it…

I don’t want a strike. I just want to be fairly compensated. I work with some who want to strike no matter what. I don’t think they understand the repercussions that will have on the economy, family and friends.

I don’t know if your days off are protected or not, but that was the big thing I saw missing from the PEB-endorsed company position.

    BREAK BREAK
-There is a somewhat fanatical subgroup of union members that don’t understand RLA processes, nor the actual gravity of a strike. Many, if not most, weren’t around when Reagan fired 12K Air Traffic Controllers on day 2 of the PATCO strike. The union fanatics today seem to think both the public and the pols will support a strike because “labor”. None of that matters in negotiations or on the first day you walk.

I do not have any “scheduled” days off other than vacation days and personal leave days. They are all seniority based and vacations must be bid in November for the following year. They finally agreed that emergency room visits wouldn’t go against your attendance. So kind of them.

So what does a conductor do on a freight train? Or a brakeman on any train, anymore? Check the hoses? I do remember the caboose crew argument yrs ago. Airlines trying to reduce cockpit crew to 2. Labor expenses reduction.

Well I hope you do not strike. I recall growing up and Dad worked in Coal Mine in PA. They would strike for more pay or whatever, we lived like paupers for a month, finances in shambles. The strike settled and it would take a year or so to get back to even. Seems like a losing proposition to me. I think the union bosses still got paid, but I was 6 or 8 and that was over 50 years ago.

We don't have a "Reagan President" in 2022.

…Airlines trying to reduce cockpit crew to 2. Labor expenses reduction.
That was a regulatory fight cloaked in an expense argument. Required the right technology and industry to develop aircraft that only required two people in the cockpit.

The FAA certifies aircraft with a required number of crew based on the manufacturer’s design.

    Who said that?
The current occupant of the White House is nothing like Reagan. The railroad union is much different than the air traffic controller union which went on strike. A railroad strike today would not have the same result as the ATC strike had.
Different industries, different Presidents and different unions.

Mc Donald's prices went up but very little after the $15 base pay deal.
    Ima go with that notion.
The health of our Country is affected by both mc donalds and the railroad, but much differently. The workers of mc donalds and the railroad couldn't be more different.

Back up chief, that’s exactly what I said in different words.

That’s because there wasn’t a $15/hr base pay deal. The plan is to have an average, not minimum, pay of $15/hr by 2024, and that only impacts corporate owned locations, which is about 7% of locations worldwide.

They're going to start automating these FF restaurants and it can't happen soon enough. The service I receive now is so horrible that even I, a generous tipper, have almost stopped tipping completely.

I might be a Jew, but I am not a cheap bastard and for me to not tip takes some really horrific service. I've received nothing but that lately.

I’ve never tipped at a fast food joint in my life time. Generally speaking, full service restaurants are where I tip.

I prefer the way it worked in Italy. If you were in a full service restaurant, there was a 2-3EUR service fee added per person. To leave a tip was to insult the staff.

Full service, except 4 and 5 star places the service is really poor man. My point was that the food service business is about to become automated. I was at a chicken restaurant, super famous. I ordered in advance to pick up.. 30 minutes after I got there they brought me my order, incomplete, without the drink, or napkins and utensils.

We went to Dennys last night. It took an hour for food, it was cold, and my drink was never refilled once. this is the kind of stuff that's unacceptable to me.

Tonight, I went to Perry's in Austin on a date. Yeah the check was 160 bucks for two people plus 25% tip, but the service was adequate to good.
