OK, the steel arrived Wednesday - 1/4" thick 1095. I'll start working on it this weekend. Gonna try to keep it as close to 1/4" thick as I can.
If you don’t mind doing it, can you take pics at each stage when you are done? I am so geeked. Hope you have some fun making it.

( and yeah, a pic of the steel it starts out as :) )

Well, this one doesn't look bad for the price... $28.95. Claims 5mm thick 7Cr17mov and 1.61 lbs... I'm sure it's still shit compared to the custom handmade beast you're gonna get!

And any other folks here that make blades.

I need a meat cleaver that will withstand the absolute worst abuse that I can deliver. It will be used to process game at home and will be used a bunch.

If someone on here can make one, I would rather spend the money locally.
I've gota damascus Cleaver with stag grips... don't hunt much anymore $125 if curious I'll send pics

After an hour with a punch and chisel...

Ready to start rotating and shaping the handle.

Edited because my phone went wonky and apparently saw fit to change all the photos into the same one. Ah, technology.

Hey GZ - As long as you have been on here, and as much great content you've posted, push this. I know how hard it is to get your name out in the craftsman world, but where is a better place to start? People who (at least marginally) know you. I can think of a few forged blades I'd like.

That's in the works. I'll be getting a business sponsorship once I see what my Christmas bonus from the day job looks like. At that point, I'll be able to actually sell here rather than being restricted to responding to requests. Right now I'm treading carefully to stay (hopefully) on the right side of forum policies.

Well, still...I feel like posting an "I make knives, come buy them from me" thread might be taking advantage. I definitely want to play it safe.

Plus...I've got my hands full with Hoji's freakin' monster cleaver! Seriously though I want to make sure I've got at least a couple of finished pieces on hand to show off before I start seriously selling.

We need more YouBoob videos!!!! Hoji's monster cleaver is perfect for that. People are loving the stuff you're selling so far (I've looked.) When you think you're getting near the line on here - be a sponsor. You're knowledgeable enough to know when.

Yeah, I haven't been confident enough for a knife forging video yet - but I think moving the handle of Hoji's cleaver into position might make a good subject. Working that particular piece of steel is a challenge.

I'm seriously looking forward to that. I saw that chunk of metal, and your comment about making it a handle - pfft - I wouldn't have a clue. Good content for the interested and the ignorant.

Most of that chunk of steel is the blade. The thinner part that's partially separated (that I'm praying is the right proportions...) is the handle-to-be, once it's rotated up 90 degrees. You'll see.

Oh, I understand what you intend to do. Still bonkers to me - carry on with your skill, and the fun.
