It sounds like there may be quite a few Americans held in Russian custody.

My question is: why are they there to start with?

Like the teachers - even if they were on some kind of humanitarian mission; if they were dumb enough to go there, maybe they should be left there?

Why is this 'perv' so important...because 'it's' a special kinda 'alphabet people' freak...or...what?

Hell, our 'marxist' government already has the 'perv' vote, so what's the benefit of letting this America hating 'whatever the hell it is' be exchanged for a vile criminal who should remain in prison for life?

    I'm stumped!

Several years ago my pastor when to Russia to speak at several meetings of Russian pastors. He knew the rules and made certain he would not be in conflict with them.

And of course we have to go overseas for more information that the MSM here will not provide.

It is reported that Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the United Arab Emirates' President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed brokered the deal for the prisoner swap, two days after Biden gave the Crown Prince immunity from a lawsuit by the fiancee of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed and dismembered in October 2018 by Saudi Arabian agents, the hit reportedly ordered by bin Salman.

And who knows what else the commies bargained away.

The prisoner exchange happened at Abu Dhabi Airport, both prisoners walking past each other.

    Helotes!
Yep, the buffoons that work in the WH left former Marine Paul Whelan behind. He was just the wrong color and gender.

Disgraceful, just utterly shameful. And I'll bet dollars to donuts that this basketball bitch will continue to hate America when she returns.

Not too sure about Paul Whelan, especially given his military record (BCD for Larceny, so technically no longer a Marine); but releasing Viktor Bout for Griner is one of the worst decisions ever!!

I know a lot of people who have been to Russia, and I would go given the opportunity.

The James Foley Foundation--named after an American journalist abducted and killed in Syria--says 60 U.S. citizens are wrongfully detained in about 18 countries. Most are held by U.S. adversaries such as Iran, Russia and Venezuela, which seek either cash or major changes in U.S. foreign policy for their release.

The State Department has publicly designated two of several detainees in Russia as "wrongfully detained" -- a term that transfers the case to the Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs and raises the detainee's profile.

Those two would be Griner and Whelan, the latter being allegedly caught with classified information in a Moscow hotel room where agents from the Federal Security Service detained him on Dec. 28, 2018.

Whelan denied spying and said he was set up in a sting operation. Whelan is a former Marine who received a Bad Conduct Discharge in 2008 after being convicted by a Court Martial on multiple counts of larceny.

The specific charges against him included attempting to steal more than $10,000 in 2006 in Iraq, and using a false Social Security number to create a false account on a government computer system to grade his own examinations.

Per media sources, at least three Americans are still detained in Russia, the other two being...

Mark Fogel, a history teacher from Pittsburgh who taught the children of U.S. diplomats abroad, was detained in Moscow in August 2021. He had with him a small amount of medical marijuana he used for chronic back pain.

In June, Fogel, 61, was sentenced to 14 years at a labor camp.

The Federal government has not designated Fogel as wrongfully detained.

Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pa.) introduced a resolution last month to inquire into why Fogel has not been designated as wrongfully detained.

Sarah Krivanek, 46, moved to Russia from Fresno, Calif., five years ago to teach at a Russian private school.

Last year, Krivanek was involved in a domestic abuse situation with her boyfriend and allegedly grabbed a knife to defend herself, nicking him slightly.

Krivanek was arrested by Russian authorities and detained for roughly a year despite her boyfriend retracting the charges.

She was released last month but detained again at a Moscow airport when she tried to leave the country.
