AK-74's taking the same hit as ARs, AK-47?

Just wondering if all fo the wholesalers are out of stock on the AK-74's like they are everything else.

It would seem logical to me that the average joe would not gravitate to a 74 because of its "different" chambering.

But I'm thinking if you want a good EBR, that's the way to go - excellent Bulgarian ammo abounds for $120/1080 count can. Russian is just a little more...

Just an idea - for those wanting a good rifle right now.... You can have an AK-74 and 3 or 4 cans of ammo for the price of a cheaper grade AR...

And yes, I practiced what I preach - have a couple of these myself - and plenty of that good ammo. The only thing about this milsurp ammo is that its corrosively primed which means that you need to clean with water after shooting - but that's no biggy to me... especially since it's the most sure-fire and accurate 5.45 that I've tested...

ETA - got to thinking that I really need to order some more of ammo - so I did - two more cans. I know that I'll be glad I did when it goes up to $300 a can when things go really nuts.

Yep, everything is getting thin

Everything including the new AK are pretty thin. We still have some but have seen our wholsale price rise on those as they have with any other high cap rifle.

The stuff that has been hit the most is pretty much all of the more modern/"tactical"/military style semi auto rifles. Anything from PTR's/any AK's/any AR's/Any Cetme's/Any FAL's.......... So basically all the fun stuff.

They are cool for putting lead down range. I wish there was some actual hunting ammunition for them. If there is I haven't seen it advertised anywhere yet. The other thing that 7.62 has over the 5.45 is the availability of reloadable brass and projectiles. I heard that polymer tipped rounds are even available in 7.62 now. Of course, if all you are looking for is a plinker, I don't see any reason to not get a 74 and some spam cans of ammo.

Could be, I've never owned an AK. All the steel cased stuff I've shot out of them never got picked up and inspected either. My SKS didn't really mess up cases, but I never ran brass cased ammo through it.

Actually, this round can be reloaded - there are dies and brass available - though expensive - but if you are only using for hunting...

Buffalo Arms has dies and brass - among others.

And loading for the AK is for hunting and such - I load mine with 150 grain soft points - .311" bullets. These are primarily for my Cz-527 bolt gun though - but they shoot very well from my AK's too - and yes, the dent the cases pretty good.
