saw in a leftist rag (garden and guns) in a drs office a long article that three "people", a tranny, a girl named chuck used to be named terry, and one other god knows what are opening up a b b q joint in Lockhart specializing in vegan sausage and "vegan hot guts". whatever the hell that is. vegan menudo? says their grand opening gonna be launched by a queer dance troupe from austin (no surprise there). wife said she saw an ad for it on facebook. i'm sure aaron franklin is shaking in his boots from the competition. Their T shirts say BARB B QUE. It will be called THE BARBS

This story has been making the rounds lately. The chick behind it was the pitmaster at Goldee’s before deciding to open the spot in Lockhart.

This played on an Austin station over the weekend and I tend to agree with a few other folks who’ve commented, which is that I was willing to give the joint a try until the owner stated racism and sexism in the Texas bbq industry was a significant challenge she had to overcome.

    From the linked story above...

"The 1,350-square-foot restaurant is located at 102 East Market St. and is leased out for multiple years."

Here's an example of that racism and sexism in the Texas BBQ industry...the Japanese-American woman who owned and ran one of the most successful BBQ joints in the state. Her son runs it now. A lot of my high school friends worked there in the 80s when it was really taking off under Mrs Roberts' direction.

We were down that way this past Saturday. Sausage and ribs from City Market. Stopped at a tavern in Lockhart on the way home

    1. Ideologies aside, I have NEVER tasted a vegan product that was "as good" as the genuine article. They can sausage and "hot gut" all they want but it ain't gonna come close to a properly bbq'd hunk of muscle and fat.

    2. I don't think Black's, Smitty's, and/or Kruez's are gonna lose any sleep...Chisolm Trail, maybe  .
I had vegan Mac & cheese one time. It was grayish tan in color and wasn’t very good. Texture was akin to eating cheese singles and fairly tasteless except for the black pepper that was sprinkled on it.

Here is an article suggesting they are also going to have more than just vegan food: "There will be pork ribs with lime zest and brisket with Mexican spices, along with lamb chops and an array of sausages."
The included photo there looked pretty tasty!

If it is tasty food at fair prices with decent service, I am willing to try many different things. Good service suggests one have a degree of decorum with the politics though and that can be challenging.

I suspect Black's, Salt Lick, and Coopers are not worried.
