Went hunting last week, and 4 of our group now have suppressors. In the past, there was always one guy who had his rifle supressed, but the rest of us were blowing ear drums. After this hunt, and spending time at the range with the guys, I’ve decided it’s time to do it. Researching them now, but I really have no idea what to look for. Kinda leaning towards the Harvest Evo. Any input would be appreciated. I mostly shoot my 6.5 creedmoor and my 6mm creedmoor, but I do want the ability to use it on a .308, because I’ve also decided I may need a Sig Cross in .308. Got to shoot one, and that 16” barrel on the Sig is perfect for a suppressor. Accurate as any rifle I’ve shot also.

    Out here by the lake!
Those who know me, know I don't wear hearing protection. When I was young my dad use to warn me about not wearing hearing protection. I told my dad part of what I like about shootings the bang.

After getting my first suppressor I thought those who didn't have one were kind of rude. Now at my age it really doesn't matter.

I have a SilencerCo Omega 36M and it works really well for multiple calibers.

I use it for 223 6.5prc 308 300wm. It is kind of expensive though for what it is. The adapters and end caps arent cheap either

Realistically any .30 cal suppressor should work well for your purposes. Ill let others chime in with their suggestions. I like SiCo but I think their accessories are too expensive and don't have a ton of experience with other brands admittedly

I offer my advice based on what I’ve learned and I hope it can assist you on your journey.
I have three cans. I will have two more eventually.

All three are titanium and I don’t remember how much they cost, but every time I use them I appreciate how light each one is. I would rank weight pretty high up on the list of objective requirements. Even a 12 oz suppressor on the end of your barrel gets heavy after awhile.

I don’t think a QD mount is important. I used to, but for a hunting can I think direct thread is better. Lower weight and one less tolerance to stack. You can rockset a can on before you zero it for a hunt and it won’t go anywhere. It can still be removed after the hunt if needed. QD mounts are also an additional expense you can avoid by direct threading.

Supersonic rifle shots are still very loud when fired with a can, I would not get wrapped up in what is the quietest, I would instead decide what weight and cost you are willing to bear and then buy the quietest can that meets those standards.

If you have any specific questions I’d be glad to help.

If I ever get another one, it has to be titanium

The specs on the Harvester Evo, from the SilencerCo website, say it has a weight of 11oz, and the decibel output average on a .308 is 133 db. MSRP is $699, which looks like their least expensive rifle suppressor. Weight wise, it’s on the lighter side, and they all look pretty similar in the db output. I like the idea of being around $1,000 with tax and the extortion stamp, but I don’t want to go cheap, and then regret not getting a better one. I know the Gov signed that law into effect a few months ago, that was suppose to exempt Texas made suppressors, used in Texas, from the NFA B.S., but I haven’t heard of any company going out on the limb to be the Guinea pig, and go to court with the ATF. Maybe one day!

That is probably a great choice.

Shane Cox and Jeremy Kettler from Kansas went down the same rabbit hole you are talking about with suppressors made in state and not leaving the state. I’m pretty sure both are convicted felons.

    I’d pay the tax.

Still going back and forth between a couple different ones. May just go tomorrow and start the process on one. Leaning towards a GunWerks 6. The specs are similar to the Harvester Evo. It’s $100 more, but they pay the tax stamp on it. But with the accessories I will probably get for it, It’ll be around $1100-$1200.

The Harvester is a good can for its price point.

DO NOT Rocksett the can on or you won’t be getting it off anytime soon and likely would damage the van trying to do so.

Just snug it against the shoulder of the barrel and it will be fine.

There are certainly better cans but they come with a price tag.

Some of those GunWerks cans looks pretty cool. How do the bore reducers work?

I’m not positive, but pretty sure Rockset comes off when soaked in water.

I've been using a Surefire FA762SS since 2010, I have brake/suppressor adapter for M14s, M16s, and AR10s. While waiting for the AAC QD Titan I am also using the FA762SS in one of the 300WMs.

In the safe are two 5.56 specific cans, an Elite Iron that I bought in 2005 for the AR carbine, and an Allen Engineering AEM5 for the MK12 SPR. Between all 3 centerline cans, the AEM5 has the best mounting system.

The one I enjoy the most is the Gemtech Outback II 22LR. It is a direct thread. Threaded a couple of 22 rifles and a couple pistols.

The Omega 45 fot the B&T APC 45 PRO is on eForm4 since July, like the AAC QD Titan is, maybe I will see them both in a couple of months.

Are you just putting it on bolt actions? Will the potential hosts be shot without suppressors?

An evo plus a .22 can would be pretty good, assuming you stay around $400 for the rimfire can, thats right around $1k before tax stamps

This may also help with your decision. Obviously he cannot test every single suppressor on the market, but he’s documented quite a few. You can filter calibers and hosts to help.

Bolt action rifles will be the main purpose. But if I have one, and I take the AR out, I would use it for that also. I have a 6.5 creedmoor and a 6mmm creedmoor that I shoot most of the time. I’m also pretty sure I’ll have a Sig Cross in .308 before too long, especially if I get the suppressor. I shot a friends last month, and it was amazing.

    I’ve got a few cans lying around…

I use an Omega 300 for my larger calibers.
Have only put about a dozen 6.5CM rounds thru it, and a ton of 300 blackout.

    IMHO it’s a better-than-average multi-cal can.
    I would recommend it.

Moving forward, I’m gonna look into designs like OSS and others that divert gas somewhere other than my face.

How often will your rifles get shot un suppressed? You're already going to need different thread adapters, so you may also want to consider a QD system
