I just moved to the great state of Texas and would love to hear about your favorite places to buy a gun.

Any advice and recommendations would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

I usually go to GT Distributors. They are north austin. It’s a cop supply store that is open to the public. They have lots of pistols at lower than Cabelas pricing.

I guess it depends on what part of Favorite you mean when you ask about stores.

McBrides is an awesome store that would be my favorite store but the staff KILLS it as being a favorite.

GT's is a good all around store

I like my local small shop as the dude in charge is cool but its a small store so not a huge selection and strange hours.

I have bought a couple of guns at GT in Dallas and found them to be a good place. I bought them because they offer Glock Blue Label deals for a couple of months each year to ex-military who can produce a DD-214, but are not retired military or current first responder. So, it was where I could get the best price.

Without that, I didn't feel their prices were anything spectacular that I could not meet or beat other places if I worked at it.

The one here in Dallas is virtually sold out of pistols, and it can take a long, long time to even get into the store, so I would check them on-line or call them to see if they have what you want before you go in.

Online I like Grab A Gun, Sportsman's Outdoor Super Store, Primary Arms

Decent Brick and mortar stores: Academy Sports, GT Distributors and Central Texas Gunworks in Austin. Bought a few at McBrides in Austin, but the staff there.......

At this point in time, anywhere you can find a firearm is good....except for Cheaper Than Dirt. Stay away from them.

Avoid Red's. I had a bad experience there and the whole damn operation seems slipshod. I agree with everyone else about McBride's - it should be the greatest damn gun store in town, but the staff seems offended that you might want to buy something from them.

Honestly, Cabela's in Buda has been a good option. Just don't expect any more knowledge from the staff than you should expect from any big box store.

There is a store here in Bastrop. Crosshairs Texas. Nice little family owned shop. The people are always nice and don't feed you a line of BS. Not a huge inventory, but anytime I have wanted something, they located it and got it in quick.
Pricing has always been fair, and they give me a decent discount for paying cash.

I am agree with others about Reds and McBrides. Plus I hate going to Austin. That town has really turned into a toilet!

I like McBride's well enough. I've had good luck there. Sometimes it can be a hot minute before someone talks to you. Sometimes they aren't all smiles. I live a few miles from there. They have a pretty good selection. Not many other choices near me if I actually want to lay hands on something. More often than not I'm asked if I need help and I usually say I'm just browsing.

I haven't been to GT since they moved

With 10 plus years of dealing with them in my day job, ditto on your comments regarding GT and McBrides. I could leave McBrides and go to GT to chill out.
