I grew-op in an always OC legal area. we often carried even as kids, and few paid any attention to it.

During the intervening years, a false stigma was attached to ALL firearms ownership, and many quit the legal practice over “public disapproval”. Indeed, some jurisdictions, like the gun-friendly Florida, even made O C illegal.

This has left the general public with distrust and uneasiness around armed citizens.

One extremely important facet, which I can’t recall being covered here is this: The public needs to become re-accustomed to seeing armed people. Normal looking, non-threatening everyday men & women. People going about their daily activities.

In recent years, in Texas & other places, most OC’ers I’ve seen in public places have been poorly dressed, unkempt youngish men.

The public should see better-dressed folks, neater, carrying as they go about their daily activities. This should re-acclimate folks to the fact that they are often surrounded by armed non-criminal Citizens, whether they know it, or not.

We cannot allow our RIGHTS to be diminished by the foolish opinions of a multitude of Karens.

The few times I have OC’d lately, I’m sometimes asked if I were a LEO. I smile & say no, just an old retired Doc who once was a US Army Captain, but my Son is a career LEO. Everyone seems satisfied with that.

Let’s all try to make other folks become comfortable.

No it’s not. people who are “a gun owner, but…” are more harmful than this guy carrying a rifle while buying beer.

Yes, sadly, some on our side, but with very poor judgemet, insisted on carrying their military style rifles into restaurants.

    This caused great backlash.

Results include the confusing Texas sign-prohibition laws, which have hurt us all.

Folks asked, quite reasonably; ”Who are these people and why do they feel need to carry rifles in restaurants?”

Threats often produce results opposite of those intended.

the same group that is actually the reason both open carry of handguns and constitutional carry have been signed into law? I remember the media trying to make a big deal about them carrying into a restaurant once, only to find out that the restaurant actually gave them permission ahead of time.
It's quite clear you don't see the whole picture.

Beats leaving it in the car and getting it stolen!

And, again, unless the individual violates Texas Penal Code Sec. 42.01. (8) DISORDERLY CONDUCT (i.e., (8) "displays a firearm or other deadly weapon in a public place in a manner calculated to alarm"), there's nothing illegal about it!

As for consuming alcohol while armed, there's always been a big debate about it but the law states...

Per Texas Penal Code 46.035(d), it is an offense for a person with an LTC to carry a handgun while the person is intoxicated even if the handgun is in a belt or shoulder holster.

    Per TPC 49.01, “intoxicated” means:
    • Having an alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more or…

    • Not having the normal use of mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol, a controlled substance, a drug, a dangerous drug, a combination of two or more of those substances, or any other substance into the body.
Note it states "with an LTC" and "handgun," and does not directly address long guns. It has not been amended since Constitutional Carry was enacted on 1 September 2021...

No. Open Carry Texas was almost the reason we didn't get open and Constitutional carry...

Well, I didn’t and stil don’t see it that way. IIf anything, That group interfered with the legal improvements.

The issue wasn’t about “permission”, but about adverse public perceptions.

For decades earlier I’ve seen hunters take both rifles & shotguns into Texas cafes for lunch w/o any problem. It was the way that bunch did it; or, was media portrayed as doing it.

We don’t have to agree, it is just opinion.
