I bought a DPMS 16" flat-top AR-15. I had a quad rail installed, and then had the front sight replaced with a railed gas block. It's brand new with 4 mags, never shot. I saw something today that I'd like to buy, does anybody think this thing will be worth $1300-1400 so I can sell it and get a new toy? I really want my new toy by Christmas.....

If I can get close, where would be the best place to try and sell it? Gun show or here in the classifieds?

Post it here in the classifieds first. Everybody is going AR crazy with the election, so you'd probably be doing somebody a favor, and making a very easy transaction for yourself.

I've been watching for a POF AR on Gunbroker for 2 weeks now and there just aren't any available.

Last I checked, there were a couple POF AR's for sale here at Heritage Firearms in Austin. If you want, I could drop by there sometime and, if they still have them, I could check them out and take some pics for you.

You'd probably get more money for it at a gunshow with the current buying frenzy for such rifles. I like the site classifieds alot, but from a making more money standpoint the buyers here are much better informed and less likely to pay a premium for a rifle like yours. Especially in light of the numerous site threads where folks discuss the prices of others or talk about not paying X amount for that when you can get it cheaper here or there.

A FTF at the gunshow will generate a much better premium on the weapon as you are more then likely to encounter more then a few buyers who have spent the whole morning at the show and not found one, and when they see you walking around with it on your back with a for sale sign will be on you like hounds on a fox.

The catch is that the site classifieds offer a bit more of a sense of security in knowing who you are saling the gun too. FTF at shows, sometimes you aren't, but there have been several threads around here about how to minimize that some.

A third option is to find a place that does consisnments if you have a little time and put it there. Most places are scrambling in Dallas to stock this type of weapon, so you would get lots of foot traffic looking at it. Get the gunshow got to get one now, but there are none on the shelf guys, plus an FFL transfer. Of course you would loose money to the dealer depending on their handling fee or commission.

I don't want to poke anyones eye out. I have about $1300 in it (including the ammo that will go with it....Hornady TAP 75gr LE...which is not that easy to find and isn't cheap), it's never been fired, and they are no more plentiful now than when I bought it.

Not advocating jacking your price up to take advantage of the panic, just saying that if you go to the gunshow with it slung over your back with that price on it for the ammo and the weapon w/upgrades, you probably won't make it past the first table before its sold.
