Been driving a manual tranny all my life. Learned on a tractor picking up golf balls in the 6th grad...until my dad found out I wasn't getting paid with cash, but with burgers instead...I had no problem with the burgers!
Anyway, now that I'm decades older I find a PDK is much easier to drive in traffic on the 35. Everyone in my family can drive a manual tranny, but some of my co-workers in their 40s can't! I don't understand why they never tried to drive a manual tranny, it's just so much more fun when you're younger. A manual also helped me to stay awake on long drives, where an auto would have made me sleep.

I was surprised the other day when a girl counted back my change at a Quik Trip station...I almost wanted to tip for doing that!

My Avitar is my '88 Comanche. It has the factory French made 5 speed. The shifter requires about an acre to reach all 5 gears. Damn that thing is fun to drive! Unfortunately, it is mainly used to pull stumps, and delivery trucks out of the ditch!

My dad cut the end of his finger off, I was headed home for lunch, I see his truck go by with my wife driving. I thought it odd because she didn't drive stick shift. My mom was at the house and told me my wife was driving him to the hospital.

Try a 13 speed with not enough engine.
The truck I drive is a 1995 Kenworth W900 with a 455hp 3406E CAT with a 13spd. Sometimes it feels weak especially pulling 22 tons west of San Antonio to Junction but does fine down here in South Texas.

550 CAT would be nice to have but I can get along with what I have.

Running 510 come-a-long with a 13 now, it is better than all except a 60 series in my career. I never had anything but smallish cats so never was impressed with them. Get you a Pittsburgh Power turbo for your cat, works wonders.

My last truck I retired from was a '99 W900, 475 twin turbo Cat, 18 speed, 390 rears. I had 2 log trailers, 1 chip trailer, 1 end dump and 3 axle low boy. I hauled the logs, gravel, even used the chip trailer on clearing jobs, swing tailgate. Hauled the chips when necessary and hauled all our machines. I hauled our Peterson 6700 Grinder which weighs 97,000 lbs, it has 3 axles under it. We had 5, 320 Cat excavators, a D6 dozer, D5 and 650 JD dozer. 1 JD skidder.
When I had time, I was an operator.
Company name was Son Way out of Conroe, Texas.
This all ended April 28, 2021 When an idiot 17 year decided to pull out in front of me on my way to work, totaled my Escalade ESV at Tamina and FM 1488. I ruined my neck, 3 vertebra are fused to gather now.
When the Dr.s retired me, Mr. Allan sold the company to Atkinson.

It's always on my mind of that happening the way people drive these days.

When Mrs Tex was flying for FedEx we kept a cheap car in Memphis for the occasions she had to stay overnight there. It was a 5 speed sedan. She loaned it to her friends when they needed a car there for a day or two. Over the years there were more and more guys (jet pilots) who couldn’t drive it. Surprising to me,

My family had a least one standard transmission vehicle when I was growing up. Drove other standard vehicles belonging to other people.
