.22 Pistola opinions wanted...

I want a .22 pistol as a toy. Super cheap shooting and plinking - target shooting are my goal. Like I say... Just a toy really.

I'm thinkin Ruger MKIII512 with the 5 1/2 inch bull barrel. It can be had in the $300 or less range. Fairly accurate, good feel, pretty reliable, and in my price range of under $500.00.

Anybody have any other recommendations? I am wide open to suggestions on this. I'm not opposed to considering anything from a single action revolver to a semi-auto like the MKIII. I'd like to hear what you guys think.

picked up a spanish made single action pistol for around $100 It was pretty dirty so I cleaned it and reblued it. Made some grips for it in my garage. I haven't shot it yet, but it was alot of fun to play with it. I was at a gun show in SA a few weeks ago and held my pistol and the Colt Frontier Scout at the same time. They were almost Identical!

You can't beat a Ruger. I have a Mark II Target that I inherited and planned on selling. I decided to take it to the range with my Kimber and see if it would shoot as I can go back maybe 15+ years that I know it hadn't been touched, and likely it goes back as far as 26-27 years.

All I could get it to do was fire....over and over with 20+ year old ammo that I can twist the loose bullets out of. Finally the lat trip I noticed the recoil was really weak so next step is new springs. But it still shoots without 1 failure.

It goes to the range with me every time now. I use it as a training aid for trigger control alternating between the .45's.

It may be out of your price range but a Smith & Wesson Model 41 is by far the best 22 pistol I have ever shot. Second to that is a Ruger MK II. The Buckmark's are nice as well, but never liked the feel of them. The ruger is very accurate, but not as accurate as the model 41. The trigger on the 41 is dare I say, perfect.

I have both Ruger and S&W model22 A both are semi autos,But I have the most fun with the Ruger s.a. 22(cowboy gun style)

I recently pulled mine out of the safe after ~10 years. It worked like a charm, tight groups without a hitch. If you ever need parts, they are very reasonable and easy to order directly from Browning.

I have about a dozen .22 rimfire pistols, including a couple of high-end classics. When working with a new shooter, I use the Buckmarks first.

A cheap toy? Can't beat the Heritage Rough Rider I picked up at Academy on Black Friday for $99. It's a fun little shooter, enjoy it much more than my Ruger Single Six 22 Mag. Probably will end up selling that one in the long run.

The Ruger is my favorite 22 hands down and I have several. All are nice but the Ruger can outshoot me.

Berretta has a 22 that is in that price range too.
I like my old Browing Meadalist.
If you can find and old High Standard they are good too but may be out of your price point.

i had a walther p-22 that i unfortunately sold to my buddy. between the two of us there have probably been approaching 2,000 rds put through that pistol and it still runs great. only problem i found was occasionally when loading fresh mag and using slide release button the tip of round would get stuck on feed ramp and a gentle push on rear of slide would remedy that. no problems however once shooting begins.

any opinions from anyone on the sig mosquito?

Well. Thanks for all of the input guys. Looks like I need at least two .22s... or maybe three. I don't think I can resist the Ruger but now I "need" a cowboy gun to go with it. I'll also look into the others that have been mentioned.
