Took the Glock 19 to the range today for the first time since I got it back from the grip reduction. On the first mag about halfwalf through I had a malfunction where the slide caught the brass backwards as it was ejecting. Well I just racked the slide to clear it and chamber a new round not thinking anything of it. Then went on to firing several mags without any problems, till I was loading a mag and noticed a .380 round in my hand that I was about to load in the mag. Well, that got me thinking and I started looking at the brass (I was picking it up as I shot) and noticed that the malfunctioned round was infact a .380 that I had fired. It was a box of about 400 reloaded 9mm that I had somehow gonna about 6 .380s in it. Guess I should have known something was up from the moment my G19 malfunctioned though.

Yeah - my Glock never malfunctioned no matter what I fed it.

I should run some Wolf through my XD and see if it is as reliable as the Glock...

I have reloaded a 380 case while doing 9mm before. I no longer pour my reloads into a can, I set them in a true reload box ever since.

I did the same thing a few months back, shooting a P89 at the range. After I loaded a fresh mag, the pistol would not cycle at all. Checked the ammo, and I had picked up a box of 380 reloads instead of 9MM reloads.

I stopped a guy that had loaded .357 SIG into his Glock with a .40 barrel in it. I noticed that his shots were keyholed at 3 yards. Took a look at his ammo and knew exactly what he was doing.

Picked up some fire-formed .357 --> .40 semi-shouldered brass to add to the "Opps!" collection.

Had a situation several months back where I had a ricochet bounce off my hard head. Guy in the next lane was shooting 32 ACP in his 380's.

Reminds me of a story about someone that was out shooting with friends and had both AK-47 and AK-74 knockoffs running. One of his less-competent buddies slapped a magazine into the AK-47, fire a round which didn't sound right, hit some random point well outside the expected probability cone, and the action did not cycle. He turned it over to the owner who discovered that his buddy had loaded a magazine full of 5.45x39 into the 7.62x39 AK, evidently without ill effect save for the malfunction.

I took a friend to the range with me and he had a 9mm and a .40 pistol with him. He had just gotten the .40 so after he ran a mag through I tried it out. About halfway through the mag I had a round that made a "smaller" sound than the rest and the action didn't cycle. I dropped the mag and locked the slide back, turned out he had gotten his 2 different ammo boxes too close and dropped a 9mm round in the .40 mag.

No major problem or ill effect, but scary anyway.

That is what concerns me now that I own 380, 9mm, 9mm Makarov, 40SW and 45ACP. The 380's and 9's look dang near identical at a glance!

Add to it that I have a 9mm and 40SW Tauraus 24/7 where the mags are the same, except that they are not! lol I need to find some kind of bright colored sticker that lasts with oil on it to mark my 24/7 mags. I may end up painting the base plate in some neon color for one of the calibers.

Many moons ago I owned a Charter Arms Undercover .38. At the range with a friend. He hands me a bag of bullets. Says "Here, I don't shoot .38's anymore, so you can shoot these up for me." They all looked OK in the plastic baggy. Loaded up 5 shot them and could not get the cylinder open. Finally forced it open and upon examination the barrel was cracked at the forcing cone. 2 of the rounds were "+P+" marked. That was all it took to kill my favorite hide out gun.

I made the unfortunate mistake of loading a .40S&W into my .45 1911 custom colt. It blow the mag out and shattered a beautiful set of cocobolo grips. Stung like hell, but nobody got hurt. I'm much more attentive when I load my mags now.

I load 9mm and 9mm Makarov, pick up a fair bit of range brass and even after going through by hand to sort, then to tumble and sort again by brand I today tried to load a box of 9mm, part way through the bullet didn't feel right as I was seating it. Tried different bullet, no change, pulled the case and set it aside. 10 rounds later tried it again, seated bullet then sized the round... came up short - wrong 9. I always load then place in a tray to check for differences but should have known better the first time.
I use cardboard boxes for 9 and plastic for Mak. Interested in what others do to keep things straight.
