This has to be the worst "Gun Show" on the PLANET. It is nothing more than a Carnie Convention/Garage Sale. I can't believe I paid $7 to go to a garage sale. Just about everything there is junk; and there was maybe 7-8 dealers (out of the 20 or so actual tables there) with any guns. The main accessories was a dealer selling KNOCK-OFFS(?).

Don't waste your time with the one in San Antonio. It is nothing more than junk dealers trying to pedal

I pretty much agree. I've attended a couple of the Texas Gun Shows at the Live Oak Community City, and they were less than impressive. Now I wait for the SAXET shows at the Freeman in downtown SA or out at the Shrine on 1604

Sadly, that seems to be an increasingly accurate description: Carnie convention/garage sale.

Of course, that can actually be a good thing...if you are shopping for a Highlander sword, a woven Indian dreamcatcher, some beef jerky and a bunch of guys standing around talking about the incoming New World Order. However, if you are actually shopping for firearms, forget about it.

The best show I have ever attended was in Gonzalez, LA at the Lamar/Dixon Convention Hall. Sadly, the Lamar/Dixon has sold and probably no more shows. The shows are run by the Great Southern Gun Shows Home Page. They also have shows in Longview, Texas.

Yes, but it won't be the "Texas Gun Show" company putting it on (which is the subject of this thread).

Texas Gun Show should change its name to TX CARNIE CONVENTION.

I am looking to move back to TX; someone please tell me there are some legitimate shooters with some knowledge of Guns, Ammo, and Shooting...

I have not seen much more than junk gun and knock-off collectors.

    Anyone?

Please rephrase your request, as I'm sure you didn't mean it like you said it.

I went to that one as well and it DID stink. The few gun dealers that were there were also pretty high on their prices. Ex Marlin 30-30 can be found for around 300. These guys wanted 400 plus with no negotiating.

Did you notice that many tables were empty and part of the convention hall was also curtained off?

Last time I go to a TEXAS gun show.

Yeah the one in Pasadena is pretty lame. The one at the George R Brown Convention Center is pretty good. Quit a few larger dealers there and also a good place to find parts for my Springfield 03A3. Also found a decent holster for my Kimber at that one. Also found a decently priced scope mount for my M1A at that one.

Ok folks, the title of this thread is misleading.

There is a production company called "Texas Gun Show" that puts on gun shows in the San Antonio area.

This thread is not about guns shows in Texas, but a specific promoter who puts on shi**y shows.

Did anyone go to Market Hall or Big Town? I haven't been in a while because of the crowd and the junk..........I've never found a real deal on anything of quality at a 'gun and knife' show so I quit'em a while back.

Bump. I don't think anyone caught that. :p Wonder if a Moderator can edit the title to add " " or something to make it more clear, it's about a specific show, not guns shows in Texas in general.

Although, I think the comments for either will be pretty similar, they all kinda suck.

Sadly, gone are the hey days like in the early to mid 90s, where gunshows were a majical land of milsurps from all over the world. Anybody else remember those days?

For 100 bucks apeice or less, you could pick up some very nice rifles: Enfields, Swedish and Czech Mausers, Finnish Mosins and yes...nearly new Russian and Chinese SKS rifles. A nice Garand or 03 was never more than 400 bucks or so. You could pick up some nice Korean import M-1 Carbines for about 200 bucks a pop, too.

Ammo? A 1000rd case of Chinese 7.62x39 was about 65 bucks. Greek made 303 British was around 30 bucks for a 280rd metal box. A spam can of East German or Czech 7.62x54R ran you maybe 30 bucks. Swedish surplus 6.5x55 made by Norma in the 70s ran for a paltry 20 bucks for a 200rd battle pack. You could shoot your Enfield or SKS cheaper than you could a 22 magnum!

    Ahhh...those were the days!

Flash foreward to today...or even a year ago and the gun show is not even a shadow of its former self.

I wonder if 10 years from now we'll look back and say:

Remember when gun shows were full of beef jerky, airsoft toys, and Tapco furniture. I miss having dealers tell me "buy it now before the ban".

The anti's are always going on about closing the "gun show loophole". It seems that the people who put on gun shows and the dealers at the gun shows, are doing their best to kill gun shows. Aside from the occasional hard to find parts, there really isn't a reason to pay to go to a gun show, to pay higher prices than the local dealers.
