    Hi All-

As I've posted in another thread, I've just purchased my first handgun. Given the fact that I haven't shot a pistol in about 15 years, I will need A LOT of practice. There is a dealer by me that has Israeli Industries military surplus ammo for a relatively cheap price. It is brass and he has both .45 ACP and 9MM. I would think that this would be fine for gaining experience and target shooting - I'm not looking for competition grade ammo....just something that will get be back in the swing of things and build up my skills. Does anyone see any issues with using this ammo?

    Thanks!

As long as it is "recent" manufacture that is Non-Corrosive, it should be fine. If you shoot old GI issue (like WWII issue/manufacture), it can be Very Corrosive and your barrel with rust if it is not cleaned right after shooting (don't ask how I know this little tidbit of info :(). How low is the cost per 50 or 100?

DO NOT SHOOT IMI BLACK TIP IN ANY HANDGUN!!! It is SMG ammo and loaded very hot and will destroy most handguns.
I use surplus ammo, but only factory-boxed stuff, there have been many issues with loose/bulk surplus over the years.

    Hi Millerwb-

I'll let you know what I find out about corrosiveness. The ammo is in bulk - I don't think they sell it in 50s or 100s, but I'll ask. If I remember correctly, it was $150 / 1,000.

If it is $150/1000, that would be $15/100 or $7.5/50. That would be a good price, especially if it was not corrosive. The least expensive I have seen boxes of 50 locally is about $15.

I stopped by there today. I believe that they wil sell over the internet and they have it in stock. It's $150/1,000 and they won't break it down. I hope that helps.

Before I checked that site I thought yall were talking about .45acp for $150/1000. I almost sh#@ my pants while pulling the site up, but it's just 9mm.

But $250/1000 for .45 ACP isn't bad though.

I paid just over $200 almost a year ago for Blazer Brass. Current price is around $300/1000 plus tax.

I had placed a case of 9mm in my cart this afternoon but never finalized the purchase. I just entered shipping/billing info and the transaction went through. I got an "initial" confirmation email within a few minutes. Now I'll wait and see if I get a "item back-ordered" or "sorry, we're out" email later.

Wow, thanks for the link. If I end up getting any of the 9mm, you can be sure that I'll go over it very carefully.

If it looks anything like the 5.56 that other guy got, my first call will be to the credit card company and the second call will be to RGuns using words like "interstate wire fraud" and how I would be "risking death" if I used any of that s**t their selling.

I bought some of the 9mm. I'll inspect it before using it and be on the lookout for the signs of the stuff loaded in excess of +P+ pressures.

I'll let everyone know how it goes...

Hey, no problem as far as I'm concerned. I am always looking to save a buck on range ammo - I need the practice too. ;)

I bought some of the IMI 9mm as well and will post a report when I inspect the ammo.

I orginally ordered 300lbs of this stuff but cancelled my order when I read about how shitty this company reputation was

Craigs list Austin has .308 milsurp ammo 1500 rounds posted. It's corrosive and probably boxer primed. There is also a STI 9mm, and a 400.00 Glock posted guys.
