Went to Cabelas and Bass Pro in DFW this weekend just to walk around and see what they had. Decided to head over to the ammo aisles...and it looked like the massive run had been on .40S&W? At Cabelas, plenty of 9mm, .45ACP, .38, .357, etc. Even had Speer Gold Dot .50AE...I think between all the brands I only found ten to twenty 20-50 round boxes of .40S&W, all Speer or CorBon. Same at Bass Pro, but they also had three of the "250 ruond value packs" for $75..

Is there a sudden massive market for the .40S&W that I didn't hear about?

The same seems to be true with my local Academy and Gander. When I noticed this, I just assumed it was a lack of restocking, for whatever reason, not a "massive run."

I went to the Gun Show two weekends ago at the GR Brown in Houston. There were people stacked 2-deep at the big handgun tables and a waiting line of 1 1/2 hours just to pay and get your paperwork processed!! That and the 10-15% higher prices pretty much ruined my mood to pick up a pretty bauble.

Add to this that I think 40 cal is the hot new caliber for 2008-09. But generally, I think people are stocking up a little for "the Oboma-nator". I've seen the same thing in the last few weeks for 9 mm as well.

Hmmm... great news for me - I just bought a Sigma .40 at the Dallas Gun Show last weekend! Guess I should've bought some more ammo.

Hope to be at the range this weekend. My son is due home from Iraq Friday evening. He bought a KelTec 9mm just before heading back there and I'm sure he'd like to run a few rounds through it as well. And it'll be fun to take my old 357mag as well.

Ooops, I'm sorta hijacking this thread. Well, to get back on track, kinda... do most of you buy your ammo at gun shows, local retailers or online/mail order? I'll need to restock after this weekend.

First...stay FAR AWAY from Gander, Bass Pro and Cabelas for handgun ammo. They're way too high.

Academy is better on pricing, as is...believe it or not...Wal Mart. Gunshows are hit and miss and lately...mostly miss. I cannot believe the insane prices I see at gunshows lately. I might take some of my beaters up there and try to sell them for crazy prices...why not...everybody else is cashing in on the Obama craze that has yet to begin...and may not happen.

I find 40SW ammo at Academy and Wal Mart every time I go look. Last week, I bought four boxes of Blazer Brass 40s at Wal Mart, for about 12 bucks a box. They had rows and rows of 40SW ammo.

I saw a professorial reloader with his .40 S&W reloads priced just a bit higher than new factory ammo.

And I saw another vendor with brass and bullets priced higher than loaded .40 factory ammo.

I bought some more factory loads.

A little while back, Bass Pro Shops had some .40 marked down on sale, I guess I should have bought more of it back then.

I guess the reason that we are in this situation is that a typical American Citizen realizes that the Washington Government has no regard at all for American Citizens, or our American Laws, especially our 2nd Amendment!

I gave up on Wally World when I finally realized just how completely Anti-American they had become, when I could no longer find a product that said Made in America there, but could go down the street to a dollar store and find items that bore a Made in America sticker there. If Wally World is not buying American made products, but the dollar store (which is under pricing Wally World any way) is, then that choice is not due to price, but due to their disloyalty to American Citizens!

Even if Wally World was not so openly Anti-American (and it is) but a couple of different truck drivers that have picked up ammo directly from ammo factories to deliver to Anti-America World, have told me the same thing; that the ammo at Wally World is factory seconds that did not pass quality control, and Wally buys that stuff up- to sell to you!

Yeah, but the Dollar Store doesn't sell .40S&W...

I'll check out Academy on my lunch break. All the local Wally Worlds to me only carry the FMJ WWB, and most of the firearm portion of the out door areas is dedicated to BB guns and the cheap Airsoft guns.

Guess what...all the 40SW ammo that you passed on at Wal Mart was...surprise...made in America! Every last round.

Soooo...something at Wal Mart is still made in America - and that something is the ammunition.

    It wasn't me, this time.

Academy usually has a better price than any one else here in the area, that I would spend my money with.

Academy is a good Texas Business, and I support Texas first!

Last week I got a new leather holster from Two Fools Leather Goods. I was going to carry a Glock 17 in it but decided to carry a Glock 22 and have carried it all week. I've never been a fan of the 40 S&W but back when police trade ins got so cheap, I got 2 of them for $269 each.
