I really, really want a 1911. It took my two Glocks to figure that one out. Right now I have a Glock 23. I'm thinking that, with the prices I'm seeing on Gunbroker and some private sales, I should (in theory, mind you), be able to straight trade one for an RIA Tactical model, or it plus some cash for a Taurus or one of the lower end Springfields. Am I right in my thinking or off base a bit?

Also, what are fair prices for some of the lower end 1911s? Thanks in advance!

You can get a nice 1911 for $500-$800. If you rally want a lower end, as you call it, I doubt you'll save that much more. $400-$500 maybe? I'd hold out and shop hard for a good gun.

That said, I know a lot of people have lower priced 1911's like RIA's and they shoot just fine. And the nice thing about a 1911, you can do almost anything to them. A lot of smiths won't touch them for customer work, but for example, if it's not shooting accurate enough for you, or you don't like the trigger, there's a lot of things you can do. Of course you may spend some $$$ doing it, but they're so versatile and customizable.

trade in prices will be horrible, shops will want to more than double their money when reselling the gun. I wouldn't expect more than $300 in trade.
you are much better off selling it on your own, then purchase with cash.

Selling it on my own is exactly what I was planning to do. What I was saying is that when I put it up for sale, offer it as a trade if needed.

JKTex...I guess what I was saying is I'm not looking for one of those super duper high speed low drag ninja 1911 o' doom. Can't really justify spending the money they ask for when I could buy a crate of Mossin Nagants for the cost. The RIA seems nice and I've read a number of good reviews on it... But I could be wrong.

Check out m1911.org.The RIAs are good for the money and are cheaper if you buy them on the internet. You can find them at centerfiresystems.com or gunbroker.com.I have six RIAs so far and I am thinking about getting the nickeled 1911 version next.An basic Springfield 1911 gi will run you about $500-$600.

Put your glocks on consignment or sell them on the forum. American Classic made by Metro Arms in the Phillipines is also in your price range and has some of the bells and whistles. I have heard good things about them but haven't shot one. Have handled one and the slide was smooth and tight.

I'm thinking thats the best plan of action. Sell the 23 and get a RIA or similar from J&G, as their prices look the most attractive, and I wouldn't be out to much on the sale.

However...as anyone heard/read anything about the Charles Daley M-5? Looks to be a pretty nifty set up. And because I can't really check at work and my computer at home is about two and a half seconds away from blowing up in my or my cat's face...How much are STI Spartans going for?
