Couldn't tell you anything about the tobacco in them as I haven't noticed anything different, but I've heard that marlboro changed their paper to some kind of self-extinguishing type that if left alone too long will simply go out instead of burning to the filter. I have noticed them burning differently is the only reason I mention it.

About a year ago I got tired of paying $5 or $6 for a pack and sucking up all the chemicals they add to the tobacco and started injecting my own. I buy real tobacco. Not that reconstituted stuff the cig companies call tobacco. I tried about a dozen different varieties of tobacco and a bunch of different filtered tubes and got a Topomatic machine. I can make a pack in about two minutes and they taste better than Marlboro Lights and they're about $1 per pack. The machine pays for itself in savings in the first carton. You'll have to get a little can to put them in and a case that will hold 10 - 15 if you go out. My wife hasn't had a sinus headache since we started making our own because we're off the chem sticks that Marlboro calls cigarettes. I order 10 lbs at a time for about $110 from a place in Pencilvaneya ;) and the tubes are $1.99 per carton.

Sometimes I have a few made with Bali Shag Halvesware in the blue can in Vera Cruz Elegante tubes. A Dutch blend. Kinda strong but very aromatic and tasty. You'll either love it or hate it. Bali Shag in the Red can is the American blend and it's 100 times smoother and better tasting than Marlboro and still a lot cheaper. 90% of the time I smoke the house blend from Penn. It tastes good and it's cheap.

Here's a website with a ton of info about making your own. Roll Your Own Magazine, RYO, The Magazine of Roll Your Own Cigarettes, Tobacco and Product Reviews, Smoking Issues, SCHIP revealed, TopOMatic, Balkan Prospect Turkish and Oriental Tobacco, Winter/Spring 2008, EXP 1000 Injector, D&R Tobacco, RYO Tobac There's a few videos that will help get you started too.

Just takes some getting used to. The good thing is that I smoke a lot less of these because they have more nicotine than commercial cigs. The cig companies reduce the amount of nicotine to get you to buy more and it's not the nicotine that causes cancer. So, more nic kick = less smoking. You pick the tobacco and tubes = more enjoyment. Non-smokers won't understand this enjoyment thing.

Well, that's all I have to say about that. ;)

A new Texas law requires that all commercial cigarettes be self-extunguishing (they'll go out if you don't keep sucking them) by 2010, I believe.

Most of the manufacturers are already compliant. I'd like to think they did this by eliminating pottasium nitrate and other additives, but have no faith that that's what they did.

This is expected to cut down on deaths from fires due to smoking in bed:eek: (a very serious offense in the armed forces), and other negligent acts.

Once again, our Government acts to protect us from ourselves...

Hey man, send me a few cigs to try it out. I may just start making my own too.

Back in the dark ages ('70s) we had The Laredo Cigarette maker. It came with a tin of tobacco, a bunch of paper blanks, filters, and a machine that would put one together with one swipe. They even had some fold out packages to put them in. You didn't have to lick them and only twist the end shut if you weren't loading tobacco. Of course I never did that.

I can't say that cigarettes ever did anything for me, but I like a good cigar here and again.

Oh, I agree but we figured that if we're already addicts and are going to smoke, we might as well enjoy it. That's why I did the research for good tobacco and tubes and bought a good injector.

I don't advocate anyone starting and I'd love to quit. Again. I guess I've quit a gazillion times in my life. It's tough.

Not smoking allows me more money for guns and ammo. I don't smoke, and I don't plan on starting to.

I constantly wish I had never started. I was totally against it all through school and started in boot camp in the Air Force. The sargeant said "if you have 'em, you can light 'em. The rest of you come inside. We're going to have a little cleaning party." I thought, this is strange. Kind of like rewarding a vice but I said to the guy next to me, "Pssst, give me a cigarette." I should have just gone inside. A little work wouldn't have hurt me. I played trumpet in the Drum & Bugle Corps for a little while and a few years after that I quit playing because it took too much wind to go through a whole tune.

I have cut back the smoking quite a bit and a couple of years ago bought another trumpet and it's almost like learning all over again. I know the tunes but my face muscles forgot how to make a joyful noise. You dig?

If you don't smoke, don't start. If you smoke, quit. If you don't want to quit right now, get a machine and make your own, save money and don't smoke all those chemicals that are in commercial cigs. Then Quit!!! There. I think I've covered all the bases. :D

+1 on the roll your own/tubes.. most roll your own tobacco don't have the chemicals, and honestly I think the chemicals are more addicting than the nicotine in regular cigarettes. Not to mention its TONS cheaper.

Also agree... if you don't smoke, don't start!

I'm only 26, but I work around a lot of people who do smoke. I figure hell, I don't need to smoke I inhale enough of it from everyone else who does smoke. It doesn't bother me as much now as it used to, guess I've just got used to the smell.

I understand the issue with prices of cigarettes though. I've seen the prices and they're outrageous which reminds me about one of the reasons I don't smoke. TOO MUCH MONEY.

You are definitely smoking third world garbage. Very little of factory cigarettes is tobacco leaf. Most of it is ground up stalks, stems, and scrap, reconstituted into sheets which are cut to resemble tobacco, and most of it is of foreign origin. It comes from The Congo, Syria, and other third-world dictatorships that are friendly to chemical companies. The reconstituted "tobacco", which makes up 40% of your cigarette, has concentrated amounts of dangerous class 6 and banned pesticides. And you wouldn't believe what else is in your cigarette. See "Tobacco Culture" by Bill Drake.
I started smoking Halvesware, also called Dutch or Amsterdam Shag about 15 years ago. I lost my smoker's cough - which comes back almost immediately after smoking a pack of factory cigs - and for many years it was much cheaper than factory cigs. Then congress passed the Phillip Morris bill which raised roll-your-own taxes two thousand-percent so they couldn't compete with factory cigs on price. If you have a little land, or even some indoor space, it's easy to grow your own real tobacco. But if you can't do that, get a can of Peter Stokkebye's Amsterdam Shag and a rolling machine. Don't get a stuffer - this tobacco doesn't need a filter, and filters are what persist in the environment and make a mess. The stuff tastes and smells a whole lot better, and a cig lasts fifteen minutes. I thought having to roll them would be a hassle, but you quickly get used to it. The rolling machine fits into my bag. And you can always take five minutes and roll a day's worth. If you're smoking 20 per day now, you'll only need about 10 of these.

I'm in the midst of trying to quit smoking. My strategy is to only dip instead of doing both. I do hope to quit all tobacco soon but I might as well try one at a time because I know cold turkey won't work for me. Going to stock up on sunflower seeds when I attempt to quit dipping since I like them and I've heard it helps.

edit: dang, just noticed this thread is two months old.
