So, I took the wife and kids out to Cedar Ridge Range today so that we could each run in our new pistols. Ruger LCP for her and Smith & Wesson Sigma 40 for myself.

The Smith & Wesson Sigma performed well, after adjusting to the longer trigger pull compared to my XD45. The S&W is a smaller pistol overall compared to the XD even with a 14rd magazine. There are a few things I would prefer to see on this firearm. The first being a firmer/thicker slide release. Another would be larger takedown tabs. Accuracy was great once I started to get used to the longer trigger pull that is similar to the Ruger LCP. There was never an issue with feeding during the 300 rounds using Remington Sureshot and PMC Bronze.

The Ruger performed well for the size of the pistol and size of sights, not much more than milled bumps. My wife liked the size of the pistol due to her having such slight hands, ring finger only a size three. The size gave her the ability to handle the pistol a bit easier than her SIG P232. One thing neither of us liked was the weight and length of the triggerpull. As with the S&W there were never any issues with feeding any of the eight magazines.I did have one issue with the pistol after the 8th magazine. After that magazine i released and felt a stab in my palm. Upon inspection I noticed that 2 pins had shifted out of position and were sticking out a few mm on the left side of the frame. On eof the pins was the frontframe insert pin just in frony of the takedown pin. The other I believe was the hammer catch pin(the pin just behind the R on the grip). The pins went back in with some pressure. This made me worry because this will be what my wife will use/carry for her protection. I am going to be calling Ruger on Monday to talk to customer service to let them know about this issue. I will reply with what i hear from them.

I just got off the phone with a Tech guy over at Ruger's Prescott, AZ service department. I told him what had happened and with an apology for the issue, he readily said he will email a prepaid shipping label for UPS. I just need to send in the pistol and a magazine so they can inspect, repair, and test fire before returning.

Thanks for your write-up of the LCP. I have gone back and forth on getting one, and with all the problems I have read about and the recall, and now reading of your experience, I am going to strike it from my list for good.

Fury: I got out there at about 11am

TXSUT: When I talked to Ruger it sounded like it was a first time occurrence. They gave me no grief what so ever about wanting them to look it over before I considered taking it to the range again.

Just got the LCP back last night. The write up sheet said that they replaced both Frame Insert pins, and the Hammer Catch pin. Everything appears to be good as new, but will reserve final opinion until I can get it back out to the range.

I have the exact same problem with the Hammer Catch Pin. Do you have an update, now that you've had the weapon for a few years? I will be contacting Ruger to see what can be done. The pin almost fell out after firing 200 rounds. I didn't notice it until the gun refused to fire. Had I packed it up at 199 rounds, and had a need to use it, I'd be dead. Not a good situation. When the pin is in place, the gun works flawlessly and is super accurate.

    Thanks,
    Dave

I sold it a few months after they fixed it due to the wife not liking the long heavy pull for each shot. I have a P238 that should be at my FFL's shop today.

The LCP is NOT one of Ruger's finest semi-auto's. Early production runs were recalled, and when my wife shot it the first time, the recoil transferred to the trigger guard ripped the fingernail off her trigger finger.

Having said that, she carries that little beast after having learned how to manage the recoil.
