Im not sure if this is the place to post this, so forgive me if it is. However; I need a decent gun safe to keep my handguns in. I have a 12yr old that will most definatly get a hold of one of them and I cant imagine what would happen. What is a reasonable price and size, and where might I find a used one? Thanks in advance:confused:

A couple pieces of info we need:

    1) how many pistols are we hoping to hold

    2) space restraints

    3) budget(?)

    4) fire resistant/waterproof preferences

    5) preferred type of lock (electronic or dial or simple key)

If you will narrow these down some there are everything from locking cabinets to top of the line safes available. I use one that came from Academy for ~$50 (electronic keypad/key backup) and holds 4 easily and I've stuffed 6 in without having any touching or having to stand/lean them up. They also have a cabinet available for just a little more that should hold 10-12. True fire safes will begin ~$250 and up for quality 1+hr protection.

Check this man out, he is well known and trusted on other forums:

4 hand guns and I was hoping for a heavy fire/waterproof. Not wanting to spend too much but I want to make sure my step son has no way of ever getting in it. Thanks for the reply

How far are you from the Bass Pro up there? I bought my pitol safe from them a few months ago for a really good price, it is a redhead pistol safe, weight about 250 lbs and will hold 4 and ammo comfortably about 8 or 9 with proper utilization of apce... I will try and get pics up tomorrow....

A good safe will set you back some, but shuold last a lifetime and serve you well. If you dont have the budget for a higher end one, usually Academy and Walmart have some workable lower end ones that will keep curious hands out. You may have to sacrifice soem fireproofing or wtrerproofing, but you should be able to get something that will work for you.

Yep - and bear in mind that even a middle-grade safe retains a LOT of its' value in the secondary market. You might also search Craigslist for 'em - I've helped friends find several that way.

Anybody able to recommend a safe that could be used in flood prone areas.....I have had 3-4 ft of water in my house before & am wondering
what to do about this problem.
