    Rifle Marksmanship Instruction
Who we are and what we're about:
The Appleseed Program is designed to take you from being simply a rifle owner to being a true Rifleman. A Rifleman has traditionally been defined as a marksman capable of hitting man-sized targets from 500 yards away – with an off-the-rack rifle. This 500-yard range is traditionally known as “the Rifleman's quarter-mile” -- a Rifleman can hit just about any target he can see. This skill was particularly evident in the birth of our country, and was the difference in winning the Revolutionary War. We will use the Army Qualification Test scaled for 25 meters.
What You Will Learn? What Else?
“The Six Steps To Firing The Shot”: Prone, Sitting & Standing Positions
    1. Sight Picture Use of the Sling, Points of Stability
    2. Sight Alignment Natural Point of Aim
    3. Respiratory pause. Talking Targets, Ball & Dummy
    4. a. Keep your eye on the front sight (or reticule) Dragging Wood & Turkey Neck
    b. Focus your mind on the front sight. Rifleman’s Cadence
    5. Squeeze the trigger. Adjusting Sights / Scope
    6. Follow through, Call the shot. Inches-Minutes-Clicks

We will discuss the Rifleman’s Heritage and the beginning of the American Rifleman tradition – 233 years ago! Beginners especially welcome. Families encouraged. Even experienced shooters will benefit.

    What To Bring:

Your Rifle -centerfire or rimfire (.22LR is fine – prefer detachable magazines), either Iron sights or Telescopic, Ammo (450 Rounds), Several spare magazines, Sling (cheap G.I. works best), eye & ear protection. We are about shooting, not equipment! See website for more info. www.appleseedinfo.org

We start at 8:30AM & go ‘till dark, rain or shine. Advance Registration: One Day $45 - Both Days - $70 - Onsite: $5 /day extra. Under 21, females, and current military shoot FREE !
Actually a lot of fun! Teaches a better understanding of basic rifle marksmanship, coupled with an appreciation for the opening of the Revolutionary War in 1775. Attended by non-famous folks so far.
Get to one soon before it becomes famous.

If I was in El Paso or even 4-6 hundred miles closer I might try and make it. Sounds like it would be a fun time. If anyone goes, I'd be interested in a short little write up about the event and please be sure and plug TGTalk while you are there!

It says they will use the "Army Qualification Test scaled for 25 meters" so a .22lr should be plenty sufficient.

That's the best part about it. $99 Mossberg .22lr Plinkster at Academy, $12-13 Federal 500-550rd bulk pack, and you are good to go. ;) It's not quite the same thing as shooting at targets that are physically 600yds away, however it helps build the fundamentals, which is the most important part IMO.

There are Appleseeds all over Texas, in the making. Email Michael Adam
rangescout@hughes.net if you have a range in Houston that will be willing to host an event.
.22lr works very well at 25 meters, but a centerfire is necessary for the Known Distance ranges out to 500yds or better. Not all shoots progress to shooting at the known distance ranges as it depends on the attendees' progress.
I will tell you it is two days of history and rifle marksmanship. I attended and picked up 20 points on my High Power XTC matches. And it seemed so easy to hit that little 1 inch square at 25 meters.........but it wasn't.
Come on out. or post here and I'll tell you how to get out to one.
